Job Title: NIGHT SUPPORT WORKER Support Accommodation Children in Care 16 -18

Establishment: Empire Coaching Limited

Responsible to: Team Manager/Assistant Team Manager

Brief description of job:

A Night Support Worker is responsible for supporting young people by providing physical and emotional support during a waking night shift. This involves working as part of a tea to maintain a stable, happy and caring environment that puts the health, safety and welfare of young people first. Basic but vital parts of this include regular and punctual attendance at work, the need to act professionally and to be a good role model for young people and other staff. A Night Support Worker may be required to work in any part of the establishment.

Core Expectations:

1. To remain vigilant and do everything possible to protect young people and others from abuse of a physical, emotional, sexual, neglectful, financial or institutional nature. This includes an absolute requirement to report any incident of this nature you witness, hear about or suspect.

2. To attend for work reliably and punctually.

3.To know where Empire Coaching Limited policies are kept and to be aware of and follow their contents.

4.To encourage regular sleep patterns and support evening and night activities in accordance with a young person’s support plan.

5. To build and promote good relationships and communication with young people and staff.

6 .To do everything possible to maintain a safe, clean and enjoyable environment for the young people to live in.

7 .To learn about young people’s individual needs and help meet those needs in the most appropriate way; to assist in the person centred planning process and promote a young person’s choices.

8 .To encourage young people to do as much for themselves as possible whilst providing support, as needed, within formal/informal learning settings (educational/leisure/residential/community).

9 .To make sure medical needs are met at all times.

10 .To attend meetings, check communication books, notice boards, diaries and pigeon-holes daily to actively seek relevant communications.

11. To keep clear, accurate and appropriate records in line with policies and procedures.

12 .To work in person centred manner ensuring young people are as independent as possible when promoting personal healthcare and physical, emotional and financial well-being.

13 .Support and assist young people in maintaining and developing personal relationships with family, friends and others of importance to their lives.

14 .To be, or assist, a ‘Keyworker’ for an individual young person.

15 .To support young people who exhibit challenging behaviours, safely and supportively, by using the skills and approved approaches learnt through training; promoting positive behaviour management.

16 .To take an active part in training, to provide the necessary skills, knowledge and qualifications required to effectively fulfil the role.

17 . To drive a minibus if required and qualified to do so.

18. To work overtime if requested.

Health & Safety:

This duty includes checking that any person entering Empire Coaching’s property has a right to do so and their visit is recorded in accordance with Empire Coaching procedures. – Although this is to be very unlikely dur to the age range of young people we accommodated.

Most demanding aspect of the role:
Being a Night Support Worker at Empire Coaching is a rewarding job. Being on a waking night duty can be demanding. The nature of night work is such that the number of staff on duty can be less than those on a day rota, so communication and understanding within the team is essential. Some aspects of young people’s behaviours can be challenging and it is important to be able to work as a team and deal effectively with the stresses that surround this. A successful Night Support Worker will empower young people to make choices about their lives and enable them to fulfil their full potential.

As a Night wake Support worker, you are also to ensure all cleaning, and paperwork is completed and up to date for the next staff on shift in the morning.

As we provide 24/7 support you need to be able to work shifts, including weekends, some nights and Bank Holidays. You will also be required to accompany young people we support on holidays and attend training courses and other activities if this is required.

You will be required to:

1. Physical restraint of young people ifs a DOL’s (Deprivation of Liberty to Safeguard) has been applied – follow requirements set out in the paperwork –

2. Log all physical restraints accordingly and log to LADO and Social worker daily.

3. Support young people with learning disabilities to the highest standard and in line with their support plan, cultural needs and wishes.

4. Support young people to manage their environment, including supporting individuals with maintaining their tenancies / placement with Empire and give Support and guidance when individuals move home.

5. Support young people with personal care if required, which may include toileting and bathing, in line with their support plan.

6. Support and encourage young people to make choices and life decisions in line with the Mental Capacity Act requirements. (If they fall within this remit)

7. Support the young person in maintaining the cleanliness of the home by keep to the schedule cleaning schedule set out. Staff are also to be responsible for the cleanliness

8. of the accommodation. Staff are to make sure they wash any bedding they use if on a sleep in and replace with new bedding.

9. Support young people with their health needs as required, e.g. taking medication

10. Keep accurate and up to date records of all activities within the accommodation.

11. Complete the running log of the home daily when on shift

12. Provide accurate and sufficient handover at all times.

13. Completion of Health & Safety checklist every morning and amended throughout the day if required

14. Promote health, safety and well-being of the young people we support.

15. Work positively with colleagues, families and external organisations and professionals.

16. Maintain confidentiality at all times.

17. Reflecting and ensuring the young person support plan is being incorporated and all areas are being met, and if they are not this is to be documented via the young person file and weekly report

18. Participate in learning and development opportunities as required.

19. Undertake any other duties as appropriate.

20. Improve the support provided by discussing any new ideas

21. Reporting any safeguarding concerns in line with our safeguarding policy

22. Keep in line & follow Empire’s policies and procedures at ALL times.

23. Promote safeguarding of the young person at all times
