Job description
At GCHQ, we unlock the complex world of data and communications to keep the UK and its citizens safe, both in the real world and online. Working closely with our British Intelligence partners in MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from threats including serious organised crime, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. A role in GCHQ means you’ll have varied and fascinating work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ, is the UK Government’s lead authority on cyber security. The organisation is at the heart of the Government’s cyber security strategy and has the aim of making the UK the safest place to live and work online.
We are looking to recruit three Software Application and SaaS Manager’s to work within the NCSC Engineering Low Side Internal team (LSI). The LSI team forms one of the key cogs in meeting NCSC Engineering’s aim ‘to provide rigorous and consistent approaches to the way we architect, deliver, and maintain our systems and services and provide a coherent view of the operational and security risks we face across our IT estate’. It is critical we understand what is important and work out how to improve the ‘now’ so that we can ensure we secure the future.
In these roles you will support and administer key services, through license and application management as part of the wider application lifecycle process. There are opportunities to be innovative and automate our processes through Cloud Services. Training and support will be provided, but having a technical understanding of applications, including SaaS and Cloud, would be of benefit. There will also be opportunities for personal development, including accredited courses.
These are fantastic opportunities to support NCSC and be a part of an increasingly diverse and inclusive team. We appreciate the importance of bringing the right mix of minds together to succeed. Applications are welcomed and encouraged from everyone, including those with diverse working patterns, and those from groups which are under-represented.
Job Description
What will successful candidates be doing?
Successful candidates will support and administer software applications in the engineering sector; delivering key application management, including license management and technical
support, as software moves through the lifecycle process. License management is key to ensuring customers stay enabled and will require an initiative-taking approach to ensure renewals and financial requirements are delivered in line with deadlines. Having strong organisational skills and an analytical approach will be of benefit in this role when ensuring license criteria and agreements are adhered to or implemented accordingly.
These posts are suitable for candidates who are innovative, creative, and have an interest in Cloud, Software and SaaS. They will aid in the remediation and implementation of software and Cloud application, ensuring applicable policies and processes are satisfied. It is important to ensure NCSC follows their own guidelines to meet the correct standard.
Roles require successful candidates to work in an Agile way to manage technical requirements in parallel to more corporate, license management tasks: this will include working as part of a team with a hybrid working approach. Technical support requirements consist of providing back-office support and technical resolutions to issues and problems when they arise. Candidates who have experience of this would be advantageous, but we are willing to invest in the right candidate that has the passion to develop and build their knowledge to be an asset to the organisation. Candidates will be expected to invest in developing their Cyber Security and technical skills no matter the level, where we will provide working opportunities, and training to support this. This includes the possibility to undertake accredited courses.
Person Specification
You will be part of a team which contributes to a range of tasks that will meet NCSC’s priorities by providing the right technologies for both the NCSC workforce and its key partners and customers.
Roles will require candidates to manage and develop key relationships within stakeholders. This will include providing awareness to our key customers of our support services and delivering against their requirements, using effective communication and customer management skills.
Previous experience and knowledge of License Management, SaaS, Cloud, SLACK, D365 CRM, AWS, AZURE, and GitHub would be advantageous. However, full training and support will be provided. This includes understanding the services of the sector, the technologies and standards deployed, and procedures.
Successful applicants will need to:
- Provide administration and maintenance to software applications.
- Provide and support license management to software applications.
- Providing 2nd and 3rd line support across NCSC through satisfying requirements managed through a ticketing service.
- Maintain our Microsoft CRM system by administering accounts, completing backups, and maintaining Sandbox environments to enable future development.
- Provide technical implementation and remediation to support applications to meet Security Framework requirement, NCSC Cloud Security Principles and other Governance.
- You’ll help communicate our key messages and manage customer expectations through clear engagement, using tools such as SharePoint and Confluence.
- Opportunities to design and create automation through Cloud.
