Job summary
At GCHQ, we unlock the complex world of data and communications to keep the UK and its citizens safe, both in the real world and online. Working closely with our British Intelligence partners in MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from threats including serious organised crime, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. A role in GCHQ means you’ll have varied and fascinating work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ, is the UK Government’s lead authority on cyber security. The organisation is at the heart of the Government’s cyber security strategy and has the aim of making the UK the safest place to live and work online.
The NCSC’s National Crypt-Key Centre (NCKC) is the central focus for how the UK develops, operates and maintains the systems providing highly secure communications for the government, military, industry and allies. Crypt-Key is the term used to describe the UK’s use of cryptography to protect the critical information and services on which the UK government, military and national security community rely, including from attack by our most capable adversaries. It underpins our ability to choose how we deploy our national security and defence capabilities. To be a world-leading Crypt-Key nation we need the right skills and technologies both in government and in the private sector.
NCKC is working in collaboration with the national security community and across wider government and industry to build a more resilient and secure enterprise. The UK is already a global leader in Crypt-Key, and the National Cyber Strategy sets a number of objectives for the advancement of Crypt-Key nationally and globally. The NCKC are recruiting Delivery Managers to support the delivery and operation of these strategy objectives.
NCKC is based largely in Cheltenham. We support applications from people willing to work from our London or Manchester offices, however occasional travel to Cheltenham at NCSC’s expense will be expected.
Job description
As a Delivery Manager in NCKC, you might expect to be:
- Working within one of the established NCKC Teams to deliver Crypt-Key objectives and run services within government.
- Working with the national Crypt-Key industry, playing a part in ensuring that securely engineered, assured capabilities are available for UK government use and export.
- Supporting NCKC and wider NCSC teams in delivering National Cyber Strategy objectives.
- Working for part of the week in one of our main offices, and part time at home or at alternative facilities.
- Ensuring that our world leading technologists, diverse national industry and government Crypt-Key users are defining, procuring and deploying the right capabilities at the right time.
- Managing the delivery of small projects in support of NCSC’s Crypt-Key responsibilities.
Person specification
As a Delivery Manager in NCKC you will be responsible for delivering Crypt-Key capability and services to wider government. We are recruiting into several related teams, but in all cases, you will be:
- A self-starter, confident applying structure to complex problems and comfortable with ambiguity.
- Willing to undertake continuous learning and development throughout your career.
- A strategic thinker, able to balance competing demands and long-term and short-term priorities.
- Able to connect technologists, subject matter experts and external stakeholders on often complex projects and deliveries. You do not need to be a cyber security or Crypt-Key specialist, but you need to be able to grasp and translate complex issues to various audiences.
- Able to evidence experience of working in technology or cyber security sectors, or able to demonstrate an aptitude to do so.
- Able to support occasional travel within the UK.
- Willing to work out of our Cheltenham, London or Manchester offices for part of the week.
The successful applicant will need to have:
