Job description
A lovely, easy-going family based near Reading, UK, seek a full-time and energetic live-in nanny for their 2 children, aged 2.5 and 4yrs. The usual schedule will be Monday through Friday, 7:30am-7:30pm, with time for breaks during the day.
Responsibilities will include school drop-offs and pick-ups, general nursery duties including keeping the children's areas clean and tidy, maintaining nap schedules, and general meal prep. The children are active, inquisitive, and enjoy being outdoors so regular outings and generally making use of the surrounding area will very much be a part of the role, as will taking them to their weekly swimming classes and other enrichment activities. Mum is recovering from a recent operation so this is about supporting the family, taking some of the load off the parents, and taking on the day-to-day care of the children. Please, therefore, be prepared to have the children sole charge at times, while at other times it may be more of a shared care situation. One of the principals travels regularly and so candidates who can offer flexibility around hours and who can occasionally step-in over weekends would be appreciated.
The ideal candidate has experience with children of a similar age, is active, fun, loves the outdoors, and is great at interacting with children, sparking their curiosity and getting down to their level to play. The family are keen to find someone who shares their interests and who can relate well to them all, who is excellent at reading the room and is aware of when to step in and when to fade into the background, and who is happy to tag-team with the parents. You will be supporting the family through a tricky time so please be warm, kind, nurturing and have a 'muck-in' attitude. If you're happy to take on some of the family meals and/or some of the running of the home, even better! There may be some domestic and international travel during school holidays, and candidates should be safe drivers, confident swimmers and comfortable around pets (they have a dog and a cat). The family will be moving to a new home shortly, accommodation there will be a separate 2-bed cottage with access to the pool and a lovely garden.
