Salary - £20,406 pro rata
Hours: Part time (20 hours per week), term time only

This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside our vibrant and ambitious Music and Drama departments at Norwich High School. To a certain degree the role can be tailored to individual skills and future aspirations and the successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue and develop their strengths and interests.

You will have the opportunity to experience delivery of a diverse musical curriculum, be part of an established team and friendly staff common room, practice facilities out of hours and enjoy links with many of the county’s musical establishments.

The role could be offered as a residential position - we may be able to offer you accommodation for the duration of your contract, for a small rental fee. This will be in a shared house, just a two minute walk from the school. This can be discussed at interview.

Specific Responsibilities

  • To assist with the setting up, coaching and accompanying of rehearsals - desirable
  • To assist with the coaching and mentoring of music scholars - desirable
  • To arrange instrumental parts for performances - desirable
  • To accompany pupils as required - desirable
  • To assist with the music library and cataloguing of music - essential
  • To take ownership of the music school inventory and instrumental hire programme - essential
  • To be present for concerts, recitals and school performances (which often fall out of hours) - essential
  • To monitor, move and set up musical equipment including leads, stands, drum kits, amplifiers, recording equipment etc - essential
  • To assist the Drama Department in rehearsals, productions and performances as required - essential
  • To administrate the Music and Drama Scholarship Auditions and termly ABRSM exams - essential
  • To assist with stage management, lighting, costumes and music in drama productions - essential
  • To undertake other responsibilities which the Director of Music considers to be appropriate to the role - essential

Other

  • To participate in training and other learning activities as required (eg. Staff Study Days at the beginning of each term)
  • To be available for extended periods throughout the Arts Festival week - Date TBC.
  • Possibility of delivering a recital on candidate’s instrumental
  • Availability at lunchtime (12.50-2) and after school (4-5) on certain days for rehearsals

Desirable qualities:

  • Good keyboard skills
  • Punctual, personal, reliable, enthusiastic, musically able
  • Independent, good communicator and able to take initiative
  • Confident in the use of ICT including the Google Education Suite, Sibelius and Logic Pro
