Purpose of the Role
- McLaren Applied has a strong history of producing high performance motor control electronics and software. We are growing this area of the business. As a Motor Control Engineer you will sit within the wider Inverter and Control Platforms team.
- You will develop electric motor controls for a range of automotive applications.
- You will develop both low-level power switching algorithms and also the high level torque and mode control from concept design through to practical validation on test rigs and dyno test facilities.
- You will work with our electronic design and embedded software teams to develop control algorithms.
- You will work on developing embedded control platforms
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Have a BEng/MSc/PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant science subjects.
- Have a proven experience of designing motor control switching algorithms.
- Will have technical experience with Synchronous Permanent Magnet motor (PMSM) behaviours and control challenges.
- Have a solid knowledge of Interior PMSM operation and control algorithms including field weakening region.
- Have experience with C programming language
- Have extensive experience with MATLAB and Simulink
- Have a solid understanding of the requirements for the power and sensing electronics required for motor control.
- Have a practical knowledge of functional safety standards such as ISO26262
In addition the following skills and experience are desirable;
- Any experience with high-speed switching technologies, including SiC semiconductors.
- Experience with the design of automotive electronics and software.
- Experience with motor efficiency, thermal and performance testing.
- Experience with Hardware in the Loop simulation, especially dSpace systems and Vector tools such as CANape and CANoe.
- Experience with auto-code generation using Matlab and Simulink
- Good working understanding of vehicle architecture and vehicle control systems.
