Job description
- Independently and in collaboration, build a highly informative plan of work which provides rapid stop/go decisions on novel hypotheses and targets.
-
Designs and conducts elaborate, conceptually connected, multi-component experiments which use a variety of techniques acquired from molecular and cellular biology, which could include:
- Mammalian cell culture, manipulation, and maintenance.
- Generation and use of cell lines derived from ex vivo material (including primary organoids and explants) and differentiated stem cells. iPSC model development experience is a plus
- Cellular assays, in multiple assay plate formats including 96 well plates, capturing the effects of disease-associated variation on relevant phenotypes and molecular signatures.
- Gene expression approaches including qPCR, NextGen sequencing, FACS, ICC, and Western blot.
- Collates and interprets data systematically and synthesizes results into a cohesive body of conclusions or recommendations to guide Project decisions and new research activities.
- Scours relevant scientific literature and routinely incorporates new insights into research activities.
- Explores the feasibility of applying new scientific principles/concepts or implements and validates new experimental approaches and technologies to achieve project goals.
- Independently prepares presentations and presents experimental conclusions at internal Group/Department or Project Team research meetings.
- Embrace and embody an entrepreneurial spirit to find innovative solutions to complex biological problems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to design and execute complex experiments, including mechanistic investigation in disease-relevant contexts.
- A broad working knowledge of fundamental biology principles. Demonstrates astute understanding of own discipline and the relevant literature.
- Maintains a high level of knowledge related to current developments in the scientific Project field.
- Displays proven productivity and experimental creativity, and effective dissemination of ideas.
- Demonstrates awareness of other Project-related disciplines and an understanding of general concepts and some experimental detail within those areas.
- Experience handling and designing experiments using human tissue a requirement.
- Wide-field and confocal microscopy and image analysis experience is a major plus.
- Immunology background is a plus.
- Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines.
- Proven track record for solving complex scientific problems and delivering high quality results, as demonstrated through e.g. an excellent publication history, supported by evidence of major individual contributions.
