Job description

About Adarga

Adarga is one of the UK’s leading developers of Artificial intelligence (AI) software. Its innovative AI platform is helping organisations to rapidly identify threat and opportunity signals buried within huge volumes of information so they can mitigate risk, act at speed and gain a competitive edge.

Adarga's platform, powered by natural language processing (NLP) and network science technology, is currently supporting mission-critical decision-making across defence and national security in the UK, as well as expanding into new sectors.

About the role

We are looking for someone with initiative and an eye for approaching problems in new ways. This role will be integral to a new team in Adarga that focuses on delivering low-TRL capabilities fresh out of research to customers who have a direct, immediate need for them.

Often, customers will have a problem that has not been tackled by industry yet. It is the role of the ML Deployment Strategist to use their intuition, curiosity and analytical skills to design a solution to that problem and deliver it alongside data scientists and software engineers. This may involve anything from combining two existing Adarga ML models, creating a new one or experimenting with academic or open source capabilities. The more you can be practically involved in the data science itself, the better, but this will depend on your previous experience and the skills you learn when you are here.

This is a fascinating role that will involve the opportunity to work alongside skilled technical people on cutting edge NLP, a high degree of autonomy and the chance to help solve important real-world problems for public sector customers.

What you can expect

  • Going on site with the customer; listening to their problems, locating pain points and delivering tech demos
  • Be one of the first points of contact when engaging with new customers
  • Leading a small team of data scientists and engineers
  • Translating the customer problem to data scientists and engineers
  • Negotiating appropriate resources with CTO
  • Experimenting with open-source and Adarga-proprietary machine learning models to respond to customer problems; working out some of the technical considerations before taking it to the team
  • Support problem qualification and be able to estimate their complexity
  • Present customer problem/use case to wider people in the business including C-suite executives; be able to describe the project at a high level (technical and non-technical) with customer stakeholders
  • Describe problems at a granular level in the form of user stories
  • Collaborate with Product teams to assess if the solution can be incorporated into Adarga’s core offering or is applicable to other customers

Essential requirements

  • Analytical skills in order to break down and understand a customer problem
  • Basic programming skills, ideally Python but we’re open to other languages
  • Technical skills in order to understand suitable problems and their solutions
  • Strong interest in machine learning and/or NLP; will need to have an understanding and passion for it
  • Strong organisational skills needed in order to lead a project
  • Proactive and independent; there is no manual for what we’re doing so you will need to use a lot of initiative
  • Commercial awareness; ability to be comfortable presenting your team’s work to senior external stakeholders and ability to spot possible commercial opportunities resulting from your work
  • Must be a UK National and eligible for SC Clearance.

Interview Process

  • Getting to know you:

In the first call, let our recruiter learn about you and your story to check a potential fit for Adarga. This is also a chance for you to ask first questions about the role and company.

  • Team Interview:

In this meeting, you will be meeting your potential team members who will take a deeper dive into the role. There will be some high level technical questions, some competency questions and a chance for you to ask any further questions.

  • Final Interview:

In the final interview, you will meet with further members of your potential team. There will be no technical test, but we will ask you to talk us through a repository of any previous programming projects you have done. Ideally this will have involved some machine learning. We will also look to gain a more detailed understanding of your experience to date and hear about different projects that you have worked on and the impact you had.
