About the role

About the role

This role will see you reporting into both our Marine Compliance Manager and Marine Manager to implement and control the safe and efficient movement of all vessels within the Forth Ports area. We have 2 positions available - one permanent and the other working a 12 month fixed term contract.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing day to day support to the Marine Compliance Manager with the operation of Forth and Tay Navigation Service (FTNS).

  • Assisting with the maintenance and review of the Safety Management System (SMS) as required by the Port Marine Safety Code along with managing health and safety in line with legislation and Company policy.

  • Communicating with agents, pilots, port operations, shipmasters and FTNS to ensure the safe transit of all vessels.

  • Notifying the Assistant Harbour Master promptly of any non-standard marine matters in line with the Port Marine Safety Code.

  • Conducting internal Port Marine Safety Code audits, including auditing of towage licence applications.

  • Contributing to the maintenance of emergency plans and helping to conduct drills/exercises and enhancing preparedness of Port employees.

  • Assisting in the supervision of our lock side team and general lock gate operation.

  • Contributing to the development of Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Lockside/Workboat procedures.

  • Helping to respond to emergency incidents that take place within your area of responsibility.

  • Assisting with the investigation of Marine incidents and providing cover for FTNS staff as required.

What are we looking for?

  • A Deck Officer CoC or Harbour Masters certificate or an equivalent level of marine experience.

  • A good working knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code.

  • A full understanding of port and river byelaws and general directions.

  • Candidates who have the ability to prioritise work tasks in an often changing port environment and demonstrate the flexibility to be able to meet these challenges.

  • Excellent communication and planning skills.

  • A strong practical knowledge of using Excel and MS Suite.

  • Full UK driving licence.
