We will need to build our festival teams over the next few months, with some roles starting as early as March/April and some joining us just for the festival (29 June - 16 July), so are open to applications until teams have been filled.
Contracts vary in length, some with core hours and some on a shift basis. Most roles will involve out of office hours working - this could include evenings and weekends for support across the festival events. Different roles will have different contract lengths and salaries based on the descriptions, we are committed to paying Manchester Living Wage at minimum. As a rough guide;
- Casual roles - £10.90ph
- Assistant roles - circa £23k per annum
- Coordinator roles - £25-28k per annum (dependent on role)
- Specialist/senior roles - Fees vary based on project/role

Please note these are all fixed term or freelance roles
It would be great to hear from anyone who has skills & experience in the following areas;
- working in public and customer facing roles with a friendly and approachable manner
- being organised with a good eye for detail and ability to take direction
- assisting with and/or managing events across various formats
- project coordination, time management and proactively communicating with others
- assisting productions, artists and creative teams across a variety of art forms including music, theatre, visual arts
- Technical roles including
- lighting and sound/ site management/ stage and event management / casual crew / wardrobe, costume, make up and wig staff
- Artist Liaison & Events Roles
- Travel, logistics and accommodation research, booking and management

Please note that these roles will be on site and in person the majority of the time, so being based in Manchester or within a reasonable commuting distance is helpful.

The Volunteer assistant helps organise all aspects of volunteering, from helping to deliver training, organise schedules, updating systems, uploading and sharing role information, briefing teams, supporting Volunteers and their spaces and managing Volunteer enquires and keeping people informed through newsletters, emails and calls.

Role breakdown
Admin Skills
These jobs will involve working on computers using Microsoft Word and Excel, writing emails and messages, inputting and updating data, research and sharing information, double checking and double checking! For some admin roles, it would be useful if you’ve had experience working with systems CRMs, Spektrix etc. You’ll need to communicate, collaborate and cooperate with people. The hours for this role will include day time, evenings and weekends on a shift basis.
Coordination
Skills for these roles will be very similar to the admin skills but some work experience will be needed so that you can work under your own direction on occasion and be confident to use your initiative. You’ll be dealing with wider teams in these roles so it is important you’re comfortable communicating with a wide range of people and are able to keep different types of information in order. The hours for this role will include day time, evenings and weekends on a shift basis.
Visitor Experience
These roles will be answering questions and giving information to our customers – you’ll be the face of Factory International! This could involve answering calls, answering emails, being at shows to direct audiences and answer questions in person. You will need to be polite, patient, courteous and be passionate about going the extra mile to make someone’s experience the best it can be. It’s important to know when to get help for a problem that you don’t know the answer to. You’ll be in spaces with lots of people – audiences, participants, volunteers – so you’ll need to be comfortable with a noisy and busy environment and being around people you may not have met before. The hours for this role will include day time, evenings and weekends on a shift basis.
Events
These roles will need to be able to understand instruction quickly and pass on information to lots of people in a clear and accurate way. You will need to move from place to place and possibly carry items such as posters, documents, small bits of equipment. You will enjoy carrying out physical tasks and being at an event, where you could be setting up tables and chairs, making sure the space looks good and has everything that’s needed. You’ll be in spaces with lots of people – artists, participants, volunteers – so you’ll need to be comfortable with a noisy and busy environment and being around people you may not have met before. The hours for this role will include day time, evenings and weekends on a shift basis.
