JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Midday Supervisor
LINE MANAGER Senior Midday Supervisor
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Head Teacher
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
v Holidays not to be taken in term-time
PRINCIPAL RESPONSABLITIES
v To ensure the safety, general welfare and good conduct of pupils during the lunch time period.
v Assistance is also given to school and catering staff with basic cleaning and general duties in and around dining areas.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
v To supervise the movement of pupils to and from dining areas including any personal hygiene requirements (as appropriate to their age) whilst they use the toilets and wash their hands.
v To supervise pupils needing a change of clothes.
v To control the dinner queue.
v Supervise pupils eating their dinners and packed lunches.
v To assist pupils, where necessary with the proper use of cutlery, help younger pupils to cut up food and show them how to use their cutlery, drinking facilities or other aspects of the midday meal.
v Prevent pupils from taking food outside the dinner hall.
v Supervise and control the behaviour of pupils whilst they eat their meals and in the playground.
v To assist the pupils, where necessary, with the collection of food and return of trays, or other items to the service counter.
v Take play equipment outside and organise activities.
v Check that pupils do not congregate around areas that they should not (ie. toilet blocks).
v Wipe spillages on the floor and tables incurred during the meal times, and the resetting of tables, as appropriate.
v To wipe bodily fluids from pupils and areas in a safe manner.
v Be aware of emergency procedures e.g. Fire drill and know what action to take.
v Supervise pupils in designated areas other than the playground during bad weather.
v Report all accidents and incidents to the designated member of staff as required by the school.
v Ensure pupils do not leave the school without permission of the Head Teacher.
v To administer first aid as and when required.
SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL
v Be aware of and comply with school policies and procedures relating to child protection, health & safety, security, confidentiality and data protection. Report all concerns to the appropriate person (as named in the policy concerned) and enter details
v Contribute to the overall ethos/aims/work of the school.
v Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of pupils
v To participate in performance development procedures and training and attend meetings as requested.
v Attend and participate in regular meetings as appropriate
v Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
v Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others.
Midday Supervisor Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills
No formal qualification or previous experience is required but the ability to establish positive expectation of pupil behaviour, good relationships with staff and pupils, and a sensitivity to pupil’s personal needs is important.
Supervision and Management
The postholder will be expected to work with limited supervision to an established work pattern. There will be support available from the Senior Midday Supervisor or Head Teacher. Regular notes are in place for briefing on relevant school matters and individual pupil matters.
Key Contacts and relationships
There is a high level of interaction with individual and groups of pupils.
To work as a co-operative member of a team of supervisory assistants, liaising as necessary with other school staff.
Decision Making
The postholder will be supervising the movement and conduct of pupils and be expected to intervene, as appropriate, to establish safe and proper behaviour.
The nature and level on intervention and the referral of problems to senor staff will depend upon personal judgement within any guidelines and policies issued by the school.
Resources
If personal protective clothing is supplied, it must be worn at all times, as provided, and maintained to an appropriate standard.
Working Environment
There may be some occasions when the postholder will be expected to attend to a pupil with soiled clothing due to sickness or toileting problems.
There will be a need to respond to challenging behaviour of pupils
The post will also involve some supervisory duties being undertaken on the playground or other external spaces.
