Job description
A small but busy, friendly unit, the Neurometabolic Unit is the only designated supra-regional centre in the UK for the investigation of Neurometabolic disorders. It provides a unique range of investigations and clinical advice encompassing mitochondrial, neurotransmitter, pterin, amino acid and fat oxidation disorders and utilises state of the art analytical technologies.
A Medical Laboratory Assistant is required to work in the specimen reception section of the Neurometabolic unit. Duties will be varied and include the electronic input of patient data, preparation of samples for analysis and storage, electronic scanning of request forms, dealing with some telephone enquiries and general support to the laboratory scientists. Applicants must have good typing skills and should have experience with data input and a good telephone manner. A background in science subjects to GCSE level and experience in using computers would be an advantage as would previous experience of working in a Clinical Laboratory.
This accredited laboratory is based in the Institute of Neurology and is part of National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, part of the Queen Square Division, which sits within the Specialist Hospital Board of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH)
We are looking to fill the following hours: Mon – Fri 09.00 to 17.30hrs
