North West London Pathology (NWLP) is a new partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust. The partnership represents a new model for delivering pathology testing in a modern, efficient operation that manages 25 million tests per year. Our services are delivered at six hospital sites across North West London.
North West London Pathology is looking to a focused and methodical Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to join the Specimen Reception team at Hillingdon Hospital.
MLAs are the first point of contact for the Laboratory therefore a friendly, approachable personality and excellent communication skills are essential.
The role includes pre-analytical sample sorting, preparation, data entry, receipt and maintenance of stock, attending to telephone queries from service users and adhering to health & safety responsibilities.
You should have good attention to detail, manual dexterity and the ability to follow defined protocols whilst working quickly and effectively under pressure. Experience of manually entering patient information quickly and accurately onto various laboratory computer systems, including Sunquest would be advantageous.
This post does not attract support for completing the IBMS registration portfolio however the role does offer practical Laboratory experience to candidates who are aspiring to work within biomedical sciences. The successful applicant will be expected to work a 25 hours p/w contract working between 09:00 and 17:30 or 11:30 and 20:00 Monday to Sunday on a rostered shift pattern. In addition there is also the requirement to work public holidays where this may coincide with a rostered shift pattern.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
