Starting salary - £65,000 Increasing to £67,000 upon completion of training
Additional earning opportunities of reaching £69,500 (with extra training and responsibilities)

Overview of the role

Our client supports central government and individuals in the community who apply for, or are due a renewal assessment relating to the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) benefit. Eligibility for the benefit is subject to assessment by multiple individuals including a clinician, such as a Doctor, Nurse or Paramedic Disability Assessor, as well as non-clinicians and decision makers. Based on the supporting evidence provided by the claimant and those providing input, a report is completed which enables the Government Department to make a decision about each claim or review.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) offers support and financial help so you can do suitable work if you are able to. It gives you access to a Work Coach and services including employment, training, and condition management support to help you manage your illness or disability at work.

Where does MSS operate?
Medical Support Services also assesses Employment Support Allowance (ESA) cases and a range of other benefits throughout Northern Ireland against criteria set by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on behalf of the Northern Ireland Department for Communities.

They deliver assessments in Northern Ireland; Medical Support Services have 11 Consultation Centres and over 60 Health Professionals plus support staff.

Job Description
The role involves a combination of face-to-face medical assessments, documentation review and supporting existing health professionals with advice on cases they are reviewing.
You will carry out functional assessments on behalf of the Department for Communities (DFC), as well as providing advice and case support for the DFC directly at their headquarters.

Role Overview
Interpret clinical information and medical evidence
Write a concise report to a professional standard including all conditions, their impact on the individual and supporting evidence.
The government liaise directly with GPs, CPNs, Physiotherapists and other medical professionals involved the client’s care.
The assessment procedure and outcome is reviewed stringently for accuracy, objectivity and quality measures

Requirements:
  • Hold full unconditional registration with the GMC Medical Practitioner with a minimum of 2 years of post-registration (Post FY2) UK based healthcare experience as a Doctor of Medicine
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK with ability to commute daily to the local assessment centre and headquarters in Belfast.
  • Registration with the GMC and ongoing professional development, with recent appraisals and references from your RO
  • Be able to apply professional skills and manage own professional competence and accountability, in accordance with the GMC code of professional conduct
  • Work well as part of a multidisciplinary team and build positive working relationships with both clinical colleagues and administrative support staff
  • Have highly developed verbal and written communication skills and be able to negotiate effectively and respond to rapidly changing work environment
  • IT literate, competent MS Office, Word, and Excel skills
  • Fluent English language skills, able to communicate with stakeholders on a day-to-day basis via telephone, email and face to face in a clear, caring, courteous and professional manner
  • Organisation skills: demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload when multitasking in a rational manner both individually and for the team as a whole
  • Problem solving skills, analytical, logical thinker, and ability to remain objective
  • Ability to manage change positively, effectively, and efficiently to achieve best outcomes
  • Positive attitude, personal drive to achieve and exceed targets
  • Ability to work unsupervised and use initiative
