Cash Payment Poster
Position Title: Payment Poster and AR Specialist Position Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Billing Manager/Practice Administrator
General Summary: Responsible for sorting and registering non-EA assigned patients from Sharp Cerner into AllScripts PM. Also responsible for working and collecting insurance AR and patient self-pay balances and generating invoices to be sent to the patients. Additional duties are sorting and filing paperwork, handles insurance claims, and performs collections duties.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Review provider charge entry and billing to ensure accuracy or all relevant billing components including, demographic, coding, and fee schedules are entered in the E.H.R. and P.M. system.
- Imports and code patient services and enter into computer as needed.
- Handle information about patient treatment, diagnosis, and related procedures to ensure proper coding.
- Know several different coding systems, including ICD-9, CPT, ICD-10, HCC etc.
- Run patient eligibility.
- Run reports based off specific needs.
- Reconcile the bank deposits with the payments posted.
- Write and submit appeals to the insurance carriers for underpaid or denied claims.
- Follow up to see if a claim is accepted or denied.
- Investigate rejected claim to see why denial was issued.
- Process payments from insurance companies.
- Educate office staff on important coding updates, unpaid or denied claim patterns, incorrect coding issues etc.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Submit claims to insurance.
- Prepare and review patient statements.
- Collect, post, and manage patient account payments.
- Review delinquent accounts and call for collection purposes.
- Sort and file paperwork.
- Ensure practice is reimbursed for all procedures and according to contracted fee schedules.
- Use computers to read and organize charts.
- Responsible for ensuring timely periodic reporting and close-out activities.
- Report any unusual financial or billing activity immediately to Billing Manager and/or Practice Administrator and Financial Administrator.
Education: High school diploma. College coursework and Certified Coder preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1 years of experience in a medical practice; Experience with Medical Terminology and Coding/Billing required. Finance background preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Other Responsibilities: Must possess current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis).

Abilities:
- Ability to use multi-line phone system, including transferring calls.
- Promptly and professionally answer phone and speak with patients.
- Ability to speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard by callers and patients.
- Ability to type and edit a variety of correspondence, memorandums, reports, schedules, etc for administrative staff.
- Ability to prevent, calm, or defuse irate callers and patients by working with them to identify concerns and properly directs calls.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Prioritization and coordinate work activities.
- Ability to edit and review documents, financials and codes for typographical errors, omissions or lack of clarity.
- Ability to work at a high professional level, including self-motivation and self-discipline, assuring that work is completed accurately, efficiently and without significant supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, scanners, mail machines and telephones, etc.
Work Environment: Position is in a well-lighted office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Involves some bending, and lifting of up to 25lbs. Requires adequate hearing & vision.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour
