We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Senior Clinical Coder to join our established Clinical Coding Team, where you will play a vital role in providing accurate and timely coded data. To meet the requirements of the role you will hold accredited clinical coder status, having obtained the nationally recognised qualification for clinical coders working in the NHS. This post offers the opportunity to embrace flexible hybrid working, combining remote working with on-site presence, allowing you the opportunity to work from home, while maintaining collaborative connections with the team.
Applications for a Trainee Clinical Coder at Band 3will be considered if you can demonstrate the required skills, are computer literate, have an interest in health care and possess a basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Through self-directed study and supported training, managed, and delivered by our Clinical Coding Trainer, you will have the opportunity to obtain your professional qualification and become an Accredited Clinical Coder. Especially in the early days as a trainee, you will be required to work from the office on a regular basis to receive support and training but there will be times when home working is possible too.
Interview date: 26/06/2023 (face to face)
As a coding professional you are expected to demonstrate competence in the use of the coding classification codes, coding rules and the application of coding standards across multiple specialties. You will be managing your own workload, ensuring ongoing accuracy, and meeting deadlines. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate a methodical approach, have excellent analytical skills, a logical thought process and a focus on accuracy and attention to detail. These skills, in conjunction with good verbal and written communication skills, will help you when engaging with clinical staff and assisting our Team Leads to support less experienced colleagues.
The post holder is responsible for extracting, collating and coding clinical information, often highly complex in nature, relating to the diagnoses and operations for admitted care patients. This requires the application of all complex and routine coding rules and conventions pertaining to ICD10 (International Classification of Diseases) and OPCS4 (Classification of Interventions & Procedures), incorporating published national standards.

Provide departmental job cover across all specialties at times of annual leave and other absence.
Adhere to the NHS Connecting for Health national clinical coding query mechanism requirements, taking ownership of queries and presenting results to the Coding Team.
Be personally motivated and motivate other coding staff to meet personal, team and Trust targets and take a positive and professional approach to work at all times.
