Our team is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join our growing Dermatology & Facial Plastic Surgery practice. The person in this position is part of the team concept in The Woodruff Institute’s health delivery system, which is devoted to the delivery of the highest quality dermatologic and aesthetic care in an outpatient clinical setting, with emphasis on personalized, quality care in an elegant environment.
The individual in this position is a member of a team for The Woodruff Institute’s health delivery system providing the highest quality dermatologic and aesthetic care in an out-patient clinical setting, with emphasis on personalized, quality care in an elegant environment. S/he will assist the clinical staff in performing their duties and carrying on the necessary functions required in accordance with established policies and procedures.
NOTE: The Woodruff Institute Medical Assistants do not return clinical phone calls, refill prescriptions, verify insurance, or manage medical records requests. Our Medical Assistants are hands-on in the exam room with the patient and provider, assisting with services and scribing on an IPad.
Essential Functions
- Complete start-of-day tasks as assigned
- Greet and escort patients to examination rooms
- Interview patient to verify demographics, medical history and purpose of visit
- Prepare patient for examination or surgical procedures
- Record physical examinations, document assessments/plans, complete diagnostic coding
- Complete lab slips and other forms as necessary
- Perform wound dressing changes, suture removals, prepare and administer injections
- Educate patients regarding treatment procedures, medications, and physician’s instructions
- Follow universal precautions to protect patients, providers and self
- Send electronic prescriptions as necessary
- Abide by HIPAA rules by completing and safeguarding medical records while maintaining confidentiality
- Abide by OSHA rules to clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
- Assist with patient phone calls and/or emails as necessary
- Complete end-of-day tasks as assigned

Work environment
Fast-paced medical office. There may be a risk of exposure to communicable diseases therefore the temperature at the locations is kept low to minimize the spread of germs and bacteria.
Physical Demands

There may be limited travel between the practice locations based on business needs or provider assignment.
Required education and experience
- High School diploma or GED required
Preferred education and experience
- Associate degree or higher
- One-three years as a Medical Assistant
Additional eligibility requirements
- Certification as a Medical Assistant, recredentialing required every two years.
- Ability to speak, read and write English.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and provide the necessary documents of identification and authorization.
