Hours: Full-time or Part-time up to 37.5 hours per week worked on a rota basis provided 8 weeks in advance. The day shifts are 07:00-19:30 and the night shifts are 19:00-07:30

As a Health Care Assistant on our Inpatient Unit, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, registered nurses, healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and supportive care (chaplaincy, social workers, complementary therapists).
Patients that are admitted to our inpatient unit require specialist palliative care such as complex symptom management and end of life care. Working in a hospice environment can be demanding and challenging, but it can also be very rewarding. We expect you to have a talent for forging strong empathetic relationships with all kinds of people. Due to the nature of the role, a flexible approach including the ability to work nights is essential. In return, provide excellent on-going training and support.
The responsibilities of an Ashgate Hospice Healthcare assistant include:
- To assist in delivering direct patient care, attending to personal hygiene, sanitary needs, helping to move, position and mobilise patients.
- As a team member, contribute regularly to the assessment of the patient’s ongoing care, be it physical, mental, social or spiritual.
- Assist with the day to day administration relating to patient care.
- Be aware of the importance of a “Hospice Team Approach” for the care of patient ‘s, their families and other members of staff.
- Assist with the care of distressed relatives and friends of Hospice patients or deceased patients.

About you:
You willl need experience in providing 'hands on' patient care in a healthcare or community setting but you do not need to have experience within a Hospice environment. We are looking for candidates with a passion for end of life care that have a broad range of skills and backgrounds, that we can add to our existing expertise. You will have outstanding communication and organising skills, work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be committed to making a positive impact on the lives of patients, families and colleagues alike.
