Bureau of School Health and Support, School Health Services, Contractual, 10 Month Positions
Under the supervision of the appropriate School Health Nurse, this position manages the activities of the schools health room. These duties include first aid and administration of medication as delegated by the school nurse. Responsibilities may include a variety of health tasks and clerical work in assisting students with health related needs. Nature of work involves lifting, positioning, transferring, and aiding in bodily functions as needed.
1. Administers medication as ordered by physician and delegated by school nurse (RN).
2. Provides first aid (including CPR) to students/staff.
3. Maintains record of health room visits.
4. Assists school nurse (RN) in review and follow up of immunization records and health inventories.
5. Provides screening for nuisance conditions and may assist with screening for vision and hearing.
6. Assists in preparing accident or health reports as appropriate.
7. Provides health care procedures such as catheterization or suctioning when necessary as delegated by the school nurse (RN).
8. Assists students with activities of daily living; i.e., toileting, positioning, feeding, transferring, etc., under supervision of school nurse. These activities may include lifting up to 50 lbs.
9. Assists in monitoring student’s health status and reporting changes to school nurse (RN) and/or parent as indicated.
10. Assists in monitoring school staff’s health status and tracking/reporting changes to school nurse (RN) and/or appropriate individual as indicated.
11. Assists students with special equipment required for participation in school to meet health and educational goals.
12. Exercises appropriate judgment when dealing with students, parents, administrators, other employees, and the general public.
13. Maintains certification as Certified Nursing Assistant, Medication Technician and in CPR.
14. Attends work as scheduled and demonstrates commitment to the organization.
15. Maintains confidentiality of information and provides appropriate record management.
16. Based on assignment, other specialized duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: None
License: Candidates must successfully complete a Board approved Certified Nursing Assistant/ Certified Medication Technician training program provided by the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.
