The role

As our Media Systems Engineer you will be responsible for providing technical support for production systems, including but not limited to, Avid Media Composer, ProTools, Interplay, ISIS/Nexis, Media Central, Cinema 4D, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Cloud SRT and Isilon. In addition, our cloud based media workflows supported by VidiSpine, and Cantemo portal and cloud systems running in AWS, GCP and Azure.



You’ll assist in the support of ITV Studios technology and provide services and support to the wider customer base. The duties of the role include but are not limited to:


  • Shift based, support the team to timely log, diagnose and resolve incidents on core ITV Studios technology
  • Arranging of temporary replacement equipment in accordance with establish agreements and maintain appropriate documentation of such equipment and their specifications
  • Analysing the resilience of all relevant production systems and storage to protect media from loss of damage
  • Carrying out relevant housekeeping to include:
    • Server configuration, management and administration tasks
    • Monitoring of broadcast network, IT client, server and switch performance
    • Daily, weekly, monthly preventative maintenance
    • Ensuring all associated documentation and records are kept up to date and effectively communicated
  • Undertaking project work on an ADHOC basis
  • Monitoring and ensuring all technical facilities and associated areas are fit for purpose and operational, including alignment of picture monitors and audio monitoring to agreed standards
  • Ensuring all broadcast, production and network infrastructure is fit for purpose and operational
  • Providing comprehensive written handovers and documentation updates to colleagues and management
  • Liaising with and developing technical solutions with external suppliers and 3rd parties
  • Ensuring critical spares and available for production systems to minimise risk of downtime from failure
  • Working closely with ITV Technology Service Desk as a single point of technical support
  • Identifying, reporting and rectifying faults to ensure a successful and timely conclusion to potential or actual issues
  • Managing appropriate licensing of software, updates and plug-ins. Enhancing the capabilities of the environment as appropriate
  • Promoting new technologies in order to ensure understanding and effective use
  • Extending personal knowledge of technical developments and undertaking appropriate training as required
  • Possing and applying a thorough awareness and knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation, policies and practices
  • Responding to and delivering all other reasonable requests from the line manager or other senior managers.

  • Occasional weekend working and UK business travel may be required with advanced notice.

Qualifications (Desirable)


  • HND / Degree in Broadcast engineering or a related discipline
  • Avid ACSR accreditation

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)


  • Experience in a Media or Broadcasting background with experience of communication systems; TBU, ISDN, VoIP and Extensive understanding of core production technologies - MAM, non-linear Editing, Audio Dubbing, DC, File Acceleration, News, Cloud
  • Strong understanding and experience of Windows, Linux, MacOS, Unix, Cisco Systems and seven layer OSI model
  • Use of Powershell and Linux command Line
  • Experience working with AWS or similar services
  • Excellent understanding of computers, both hardware and software, with a proven willingness to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Exposure to Windows Active Directory and Group Policy management

  • Proven up to date knowledge of Broadcast television principles, processes and formats and ability to offer technical advice appropriate to the audience
  • Understand of importance and topology for resilient power and cooling systems
  • Agility to adapt to client needs and remain organised within a team or in silo with effective communication skills
  • Effective problem solving, multitasking and prioritising skills
  • Proficient with Google Docs & Microsoft Office
  • Experience with AutoCad
