Media Relations Specialist
Alliance Defending Freedom is looking for a highly motivated Media Relations Specialist to join us in our Lansdowne, VA or Washington DC office. As a Media Relations Specialist, you are a vital part of the Media Team. In this role, you will report to the Director of Media Relations. You are responsible for executing earned media campaigns and engagements, and managing a portfolio within ADF’s media relations team.
Your Essential Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop strong, productive relationships with the media.
- Secure media print interviews and appearances on radio, and TV news programs.
- Ensure consistent, proactive, and responsive engagement with the media.
- Coordinate and execute earned media campaigns that advance ADF’s mission.
- Coordinate media events.
- Prepare principals and clients for and staff media interviews.
- Assist with the development of key messages, potential media questions and answers, fact sheets, news releases, and Op Eds.
- Conduct media training for attorneys and clients.
- Build and strengthen relationships with media-relations counterparts from allied organizations.
Other Responsibilities (Non-Essential):
- Contribute to social media engagement efforts.
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
Skills You Need To Succeed:
- Demonstrated track record of success in media relations.
- Proficiency in writing and editing materials according to AP Style.
- Expertise in the use of media relations management applications.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills, attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-team counterparts on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Must be responsible, flexible, and work well in stressful, fluid environments.
- Understanding of Constitutional law and media organizations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Experience/Education
- Bachelors in communications, journalism, public relations, or similar academic field preferred.
