Mechelec Apprentice
How would you like to join an award-winning engineering apprenticeship programme?
How about gaining a fully-funded qualification in both mechanical and electrical engineering?
How about joining a company that operates over 8,000 vehicles, transporting customers in over 100
towns and cities across the UK?
If this sounds great so far, our Mechelec Apprenticeship Programme at Stagecoach could be just the ticket (sorry…bus pun!) if you’re looking for a really rewarding career!
And don’t be put off by the word Apprentice – no matter what stage you are at in your career, we would love to welcome you into the Stagecoach family.
We have one of the most modern fleets in the UK and so we need brilliant engineers to keep our buses in tip-top condition for our customers.
Those customers rely on our services to get them to work, to the high street, to hospitals, to days away and nights out – and as part of our engineering team you’ll be a key part in making sure our vehicles are in perfect condition to do just that
It’s a really important role within our depot but don’t worry, we’ll train you on everything you need to know, and you’ll be supported by a great team of Electricians, Technicians and Engineering Managers who all pull together to do a brilliant job.
“What does the programme involve?” we hear you ask…
  • The first three years of the four year programme are spent on the job learning in the depot with an allocated mentor.
  • You will also attend a specialist training college where you will work towards a Mechelec Qualification – so you will be equally skilled in both mechanical and electrical engineering!
  • The fourth year of the programme has been specially designed by Stagecoach to consolidate your technical skills by attending development courses.
  • After four years you will be fully skilled with a rewarding and exciting career ahead of you at Stagecoach!
We’ll support you every step of the way in your career. You will be given exposure to work which will develop your skills and experience to allow you to progress your career further.
Many of our Stagecoach Engineering Directors and Managers started off as apprentices, including Sam, our Group Engineering Director! So that could very well be you in the not too distant future!
Aside from the reward of earning while you learn, gaining a recognised qualification and playing a crucial role in delivering an incredible experience to our customers, there’s plenty more we can offer:
  • A competitive salary – and heaps of benefits!
  • Job security – we’ve been going since 1980, we turn over £1.3bn and we’re not planning on hanging our boots up anytime soon!
  • Free travel – for you and your companion on our buses. That means on your days off you can be off shopping for free without worrying about parking the car, or heading off for a day in the city without paying a fortune in petrol or bus fares!
The only things we need from you are 3 GCSEs at Grade C (or above) or Grade 4 (or above) or equivalent in English, Mathematics and a Science or 3 standard grades (3 or above) or National 4 or 5 in English, Mathematics and a Science.
So if you like the sound of the ‘earn while you learn’ idea, gaining a qualification whilst working in a brilliant Engineering team click Apply Now! We can’t wait to get your application!
Stagecoach workplace culture is one where everyone can be themselves and where all the differences our people bring to the business are celebrated. We welcome applications from all, irrespective of background, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, beliefs, disability, neurodiversity, sexual orientation or age.
