Richmond and Wandsworth Councils
Full Time Wandsworth, England 46601 - 56470 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

The role

Can you inspire, encourage, and lead excellent social work practice to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people?

If yes, we have the perfect role for you!

We are looking to recruit a full time Team Manager to work in our Family Safeguarding Service and help play a central role in providing transformational help for families to achieve positive outcomes for children in Wandsworth!

Our vision

Our values inspire our Outstanding Practice Framework, which creates the context for our Social Workers to build relationships with families that bring about change to support children to live at home wherever possible. Coupled with our implementation of Family Safeguarding we believe we have the best practice conditions we’ve ever had to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families in Wandsworth.

In our recent inspection in November 2022 Ofsted highlighted “the healthy culture that has been created in the organisation places children at the centre of its ethos and approach. This is alongside the whole organisation embracing a ‘support and challenge’ model. These developments ensure that everyone is accountable for children’s progress, and their impact is evident at all levels within the service”. “Support, challenge, appreciation and kindness” were seen and heard in every conversation with a range of staff, managers and senior leaders according to our report, and our ‘healthy culture’ was lauded by inspectors.

Family Safeguarding is a strengths-based approach that was developed in Hertfordshire in 2015. This new way of working focuses on supporting parents and carers with the aim of keeping children safely within their families. This is achieved through a more collaborative way of working that encourages parents and carers to identify the changes needed within their own families. This approach is helping us achieve better outcomes for children in Wandsworth by reducing the need for children to come into care.

Motivational Interviewing is a key component of the approach and all staff undergo training with the aim of working collaboratively with families, empowering and engaging parents to make positive changes for their children and themselves. Outcomes for children in Hertfordshire since 2015 have shown consistent improvement, with significant reduction in child protection plans, care proceedings and domestic abuse incidents.

We are so proud that Wandsworth is the first Local Authority in London to implement this new way of working. We have invested in all our staff, our leaders as well as partners to enable us to make our engagement with families and communities in Wandsworth a success. We passionately believe that if we invest in new ways of thinking and working, you'll have everything you need to do the job you trained for. We have incredibly sound, solid and strong leadership in Ana Popovici and Nick Pendry, who have an exciting vision to transform our approaches to the most vulnerable in society.
