Job description

Duties

  • Performs the overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of various types of electronic and electrical controls and alarm systems characterized by moderate complexity.
  • Sets up and operates computer-controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot various components and assemblies.
  • Traces defects and makes repairs to circuit boards and electronic units.
  • Maintains records of maintenance and inspections.
  • Maintains a variety of electromechanical controls and alarm systems where components and repair parts are no longer manufactured.
  • Uses a variety of test equipment such as voltmeter, ampmeter, wattmeter, megger, and ohmmeter to test circuits and equipment.

  • A valid operator's driver license is required.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to 40 pounds with assistance.

  • Utilizes an automated information system comprised of hardware and software components in accomplishing the work.
  • This position is designated as Force Protection essential.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronics Mechanic without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common electronics mechanic tasks. I can determine maintenance needed on power control units associated with all lift stations and/or ejector stations, drinking water wells, water storage tanks, pumping stations, swimming pools, and central vehicle wash facility at Fort Bragg.
In addition, I have the ability to test and repair the electronic malfunctions and read blueprints and wiring diagrams for troubleshooting. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. Employee frequently lifts, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) and will occasionally handle items in excess of 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Employee may be required to work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping are required. Employee may occasionally be required to work in high places less than 100 feet.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work may be performed outside in inclement weather. Employee is occasionally exposed to heat or cold from weather conditions or from building where alarms are located. Subject to injury such as electrical shocks, cuts and bruises, high frequency noise, or burns caused by electrical energy or soldering iron. Works with small power tools. Employee is subject to traffic accidents when going to and from the job site.
