Mechanic - Midsomer Norton, Nr Bath, Salary £44,200 Monday to Friday 6am to 5pm
THE COMPANY
Centurion Travel is a family company and has been trading since 1989, but coaching has been in the family for four generations and began with charabancs in 1925. Centurion Travel operates a mixed fleet of coaches, which allows them to cater for the needs of all of its customers, ranging from school transport to corporate travel. The vehicles are predominantly DAF or Scania based Irizar coaches but the fleet also consists of Mercedes and Volvo.
The company operates from a one acre site, on which in addition to our offices, we have a five bay maintenance facility to ensure all our twenty-eight vehicles are maintained to the highest standard. This comprises of two modern inspection pits with hydraulic equipment to check steering/suspension and two rolling roads to check brake efficiency. Our site is also an ATF for HGV / PSV testing and approved for the MOT testing of all cars (Class 4), minibuses (Class 5) and vans up to 3500 kgs (Class 7).
JOB SUMMARY
Weare looking for a fully qualified Skilled Mechanic/Fitter preferably with previous experience and knowledge of PCV vehicles. The role of a mechanic is to repair vehicles and make routine maintenance checks to ensure that a vehicle is running as it should be. The job holder will need to have a good technical knowledge of a wide range of vehicles, a high level of attention to detail and be able to work well whilst maintaining a patient and friendly attitude.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Carrying our periodic maintenance inspections, servicing and responding to driver reported defects or breakdowns.
- Repairing or replacing components that are subject to wear, such as brake parts, steering and suspension components, tyres and exhaust systems.
- Diagnosing and repairing brake, steering and suspension problems.
- Reading and understanding technical drawings, diagnosing electrical faults with Texa diagnostic equipment.
- Testing vehicles once repairs have been completed.
KEY SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS
- Flexible to changing demands of the post.
- Initiative and the ability to work without supervision, but as part of a team as well as being able to work alone with the ability to manage time effectively.
- Ability to organise and prioritise and able to follow instructions.
- Having excellent knowledge about motor technology.
- Strong communication skills as well as being methodical and organized.
- Having good manual dexterity with strong level of concentration.
- Familiar with automotive equipment and servicing methods.
- Enthusiastic, efficient, well-motivated and a positive attitude.
- Be able to maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
- Understanding of the importance of a robust complete paperwork record.
