Job description

An experienced Art & Design Lecturer is required to teach learners at our Bromley campus across all the levels of Art and Design qualifications. Ideally, you will need knowledge of BTEC qualifications, and you will be required to teach the following types of programmes:

  • 16-18-year-old Study Programmes
  • 19 plus learners who are on Study Programmes.

The sui candidate will provide an excellent learning experience to ensure the individual learner gains the appropriate skills in readiness for further study, employment and an or an apprenticeship.


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:


An experienced lecturer with a background in Art & Design is required to join London South East Colleges. You will be required to deliver units on BTEC Art & Design courses across levels 1-3. The role would also require course management responsibilities:


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB HOLDER:


1. To offer students a high-quality learning experience to achieve the goal or qualification for which they are studying.


2. To teach effectively on a range of College courses and programmes.


3. To contribute to the personal development of the students.


4. To develop course materials, schemes of work, lesson plans etc. and make these available through the colleges shared information system.


5. To contribute to the organisational requirements of the College including recruitment and industry links.


6. To carry out all duties and responsibilities with due regard to the College’s Single Equality Scheme.


7. To co-operate with the College in order to ensure his/her own health and safety and that of students and colleagues.


8. To teach on a range of programmes relevant to the curriculum subject.


9. To make a significant contribution to curriculum development and course co-ordination including progression and marketing


10. To take a lead on the co-ordination of the programme and liaison with the university partner.


11. To teach on programmes in other College service delivery areas as may be reasonably required.


12. Tutorial and personal development work with a range of students.


13. To contribute effectively to the team’s collective responsibility for:


  • regular meetings
  • planning, designing and up-dating the programme and its materials and activities
  • delivering the programme
  • course and student records and associated administration
  • recruitment and interviewing of students
  • the assessment of students
  • monitoring student progress
  • the evaluation of the programme
  • identifying personal and professional development needs
  • developing and maintaining links with employers


14. To undertake liaison, administrative, tutorial and pastoral duties for one or more groups of full-time or part-time students.


15. To work with others to develop existing and new programmes.


16. To be appraised as part of the College Appraisal Scheme.


17. To work co-operatively with the Curriculum Pathway Manager, Director and colleagues to achieve College objectives.

Qualifications:


Essential Desirable

To hold a relevant teaching qualification ü

Educated to degree level in a relevant subject

Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy ü

Educated to Masters level ü


Knowledge and experience:

Essential Desirable

Working knowledge of the art and design sector including

contemporary practice in specialist field. ü

Industry experience of working alongside service users

and multi-disciplinary teams ü

Knowledge and experience in delivering engaging lessons

to learners ü

Knowledge and experience of using a range of

pedagogical approaches to promote inclusive teaching

and learning ü

Experience of managing and motivating colleagues and

leading a curriculum team ü

Organisational skills in programme planning and delivery ü

Knowledge of the structures and processes involved in the

UK post compulsory sector ü

Experience of teaching and leading curriculum in an FE

setting ü

The ability to articulate clearly and to be understood in

teaching and making presentations to class groups ü

Ability to travel around the London Borough of Bromley

and other neighbouring areas (including Central London)

for occasional programme sessions, team meetings and
