About Directorate

The Assurance Group is an independent and objective department within Barnet Council. The Group is responsible for the delivery and management of all assurance functions as well as providing oversight and assurance to the Council Management Team (CMT) and Members on governance procedures and business processes.

About the role

This is a high profile administrative role which is politically sensitive with a critical reputational risk to the council. The post holder is to provide support services to the Mayor’s Office. This includes: Answering telephone calls and responding to e-mails; Using judgement to either respond to invitations, emails and correspondence or refer matters to the Mayoral Services and Civic Events Manager; The creation and distribution of the Mayoral weekly diary; Supporting the organisation on large scale civic events, including Holocaust Memorial Day, Civic Awards and the Mayor’s Civic Service and Civic visits from schools and organisations invited by the Mayor, including from overseas, arranging hospitality as required.

About you

  • Relevant administrative and/or secretarial qualifications are desirable
  • On the job experience supplemented with relevant training (essential)
  • Experience dealing with senior community representatives, elected officials and chief officers in various organisations is desirable
  • Proven experience of providing administrative support in a busy office environment
  • Experience of managing complex diary requirements at a senior level
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of Microsoft office and a variety of ICT to research, retrieve and update information and write relevant correspondence.
  • Experience of writing clear and concise correspondence.
