Materials Handler Required
Tods are looking to recruit a Materials Handler for their site on Portland, Dorset. This role will allow production staff to concentrate on their activities without needing to attend stores to withdraw materials. The secondary role will be to assist in the operation of stores and ensure that the integrity of stock and material bookings are maintained.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To withdraw chemical, materials and consumable goods from the stores and provide these directly to the production personnel.
- To be knowledgeable in materials handling techniques and be able to handle different materials including composites, chemicals, and production consumables.
- This role is fundamental to the efficiency of the production areas and will require someone who is both organised and thorough to ensure that our production team can operate efficiently.
- Assist the stores personnel with goods inwards, handling, or dispatch, as required.
- Assist in checking and booking in of goods received against relevant purchase order(s) in accordance with Goods Inwards procedure, and prepare for inspection against Quality Certification / Documentation / Processes.
- Assist in updating / maintaining the Goods Dispatch Register, including movements to customers and Sub-Contract organisations and notifications thereof.
- Assist in carrying out regular stock auditing and maintenance of accurate stores records.
- Assist in re-organising areas / racking / material locations to make best use of available space.
- Draw together kits of parts and dispense Consumable, Bought In Components & Materials.
- Fill in and Record stock movements using company MACS Database system.
- Inform procurement personnel if goods paperwork or certification has not been received.
- Load and unload goods by safe use of Forklift Truck & Overhead Crane.
- Maintain and identify consumable items that require replenishment.
- Ensure stock rotation is utilised to ensure that goods are used within their nominated shelf-life.
- Maintain a clean, tidy & organised work environment in line with Health and Safety requirements.
- Complete and keep up to date relevant documentation concerning stock records, resin and glass cloth records and storage media (freezers / racks).
- Follow safe systems of work in all work areas, being particularly vigilant in the material freezers.
- Support Security Team in managing classified parts and undertaking security administration tasks as assigned.
Personal Requirements:
- Proven practical skills with a high level of manual dexterity & literacy.
- Forklift & Overhead Crane Licences.
- Computer literate with Microsoft Office and Database Stock Control packages.
- Good concentration levels and attention to detail.
- The ability to follow written and verbal instructions and accurately keep records.
- A safety-conscious approach to work.
- Must be reliable, can work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Continuous Improvement and zero-defect mindset.
- A good team player with a motivated and flexible attitude to workload.
- Ability to obtain security clearance for military projects.

We are currently trialling a 4-day week, Monday to Thursday from 7am - 5pm.
Portland is based on Dorset’s beautiful Jurassic coast and is home to a huge variety of water-sports facilities and excellent sailing for all abilities.
