It is an exciting time to join the MOD Supply Chain Directorate, as we are refreshing and realigning our strategy and resourcing capability, with a view to expanding the range and depth of the services we provide. Our aim is to enable a vibrant, resilient, and sustainable defence supply chain by:
Investing in Supplier Relationships and industry collaboration
Understanding and Building Supply Chain Resilience
Shaping and Delivering Supply Chain Policy
Facilitating a Joined-up Approach across the Defence Supply Chain through collaboration and influencing
Linking into wider government and Ally initiatives on supply chain management.
The Markets and Sectors team is led by a G7/B2 Economist and forms part of the G6/B1 led Supplier and Market Analysis area of the Supply Chain Directorate. The Markets and Sectors team is responsible for several work strands and products which shape MOD’s supply chain policy and provide the MOD-wide picture of supplier and supply chain risk and fragility. For example, the team:
- Support the production of flag-ship supply chain resilience dashboard which is used by Ministers and senior officials
- Produces regular analysis of economic shocks and wider impacts on MOD supply chains;
- Produces market and sector analysis for strategic suppliers,
- Maintains an Economic bench marking dashboard to provide up-to-date insight into factors affecting the defence industrial base,
- Supports the Supply Chain resilience working group of the Defence Suppliers Forum (DSF) to deliver projects on supply chains important to defence; and
- Supports the publication of the JEDHub Annual Economic Report by producing the data analysis for the supply chain chapter of the report.

Job description
This post offers excellent opportunities to work with, and influence, senior officials, and Ministers through their responsibilities for analysis on important defence supply chain risks.
You will be managed by a SEO/C1 data analyst, and deliver a wide portfolio of work, collaborating closely with a range of teams in MOD and across Government to ensure supply chain risks and issues are considered as policy is being developed in areas such as:
- Economic security;
- UK semiconductor strategy.
- the Government’s economic sanctions policy following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; and
- high-profile supply chain projects with industry which have Secretary of State and Ministerial interest.
- providing open-source Defence and Markets and Sector news and data for two monthly reports.
- Supporting your SEO/C1 in the continued development of the Power Bi Economic Dashboard and you will be responsible for some of the underlying processes and quality assurance.
- Supporting on the analysis of data for the annual JEDHUB report with main focus on the Supply Chain chapters. This task enables the post-holder to work with ONS microdata and be trained to be an accredited secure researcher.
- Working closely with other parts of the SSM Team to support the development and delivery of products such as the Supply Chain resilience dashboard.
- Collaborating with the wider Supply Chain Directorate to develop new ideas to feed into the Economic Dashboard and supporting products.
Person specification
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and/or customer service.
- Skills in MS Excel and Power Bi to a good standard.
- Experience in handling of data set(s) and quality assurance.
- Experience in presenting and communicating data analysis to a wide range of audiences.
- Ability to deliver at pace and having a pro-active approach to their work, anticipating problems and finding solutions in a collaborative way.
- Good team working skills, enabling you to support others across the Directorate and deputise for your manager as required.
- An understanding of the MOD commercial function and strategy.
- An understanding of MOD strategic suppliers and the defence industrial base.
- Coding skills e.g. in R, Python or SQL.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
