Marketing Manager (maternity cover), Children’s Consumer Marketing and Publicity
The Opportunity
Bloomsbury Publishing is looking for a Marketing Manager (maternity cover) to work across our award-winning and internationally successful children’s publishing list, including Picture Books, Illustrated Non-Fiction, Fiction and Young Adult books.
We’re looking for an ambitious and creative Marketer with campaigns experience and bags of passion and enthusiasm to work on a wide range of exciting picture books, non-fiction, fiction and young adult books. You will create campaigns that break out debut talent, build bestselling names to new heights, and connect readers everywhere with their next great read. You will be joining a collaborative and friendly Marketing team, reporting into the Senior Marketing Manager, and together you will work to grow the children’s list through your targeted, innovative, strategic, consumer-focused campaigns. You’ll have an understanding of how to reach audiences through multi-platform campaigns, creating smart copy and eye-catching creative, and be able to work confidently with internal and external stakeholders.
Bloomsbury Children’s Books is home to perfect picture books, page-turning middle-grade adventures, blockbuster YA fantasy and award-winning non-fiction. Its award-winning, diverse list includes authors such as Brigid Kemmerer, Catherine Doyle, J.K. Rowling, Jessie Burton, Katherine Rundell, Neil Gaiman and Renée Watson, illustrators such as Chris Riddell, Emily Gravett, Jim Kay, Kate Pankhurst, Rikin Parekh and Tom Percival, as well as breakout voices such as Ben Bailey Smith, Lesley Parr, Kalynn Bayron and Melissa Cummings-Quarry and Natalie A. Carter. We are also home to the most famous children’s book brand in the world: Harry Potter.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Creating and implementing innovative, measurable marketing campaigns on individual children’s and YA titles across all formats (physical, eBook, audio) and delivering within agreed timelines
- Management of individual title budgets
- Proactively pursuing new ways of reaching readers, staying abreast of key publishing trends and the wider book market
- Developing positioning, pitch and campaign strategies from acquisition onwards
- Devising social media strategies, including creation of engaging and share-worthy digital content
- Briefing design teams and freelance designers to produce top-quality visual assets for campaigns
- Liaising with media agencies to book online and offline advertising campaigns
- Confidently communicating marketing campaigns to all internal and external stakeholders, including Bloomsbury’s global offices
- Contributing to discussions around strategy and content creation for the children’s publishing list
- Coordinating with relevant divisional departments, incl. sales, editorial, publicity and international sales
Skills, knowledge and experience
- Marketing experience in publishing or the arts and culture sector desirable
- Creative vision, digital know-how, adaptability, and the skills to communicate, persuade and present
- Enthusiasm to find new and innovative ways to promote our books
- Proactive & reactive, able to work to deadlines and manage internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of direct-to-consumer strategy desirable
- Keen interest in social media and new digital marketing opportunities
- Excellent organisation skills and an ability to work on several projects simultaneously
- Highly self-motivated and enjoy working as part of a team, but able to work independently
- Excellent copy-writing skills and an eye for great design
- Ability to cross-market and build strong new partnerships with external brands and organisations
- Understanding of design software (In-Design/Photoshop) desirable
Additional Information
The role is a full-time 12-month maternity cover
The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a mandatory working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Monday and Tuesday.
