If you’ve previously worked in communications, are creative and ambitious, we’d love you to join our fast-paced marketing and communications department as Marketing and Communications Officer (Student Opportunity).

We’re looking for a passionate individual who can bring something special to this role. Working closely with other colleagues, you’ll be responsible for planning and executing a wide range of communications activities that support Student Opportunity’s student communication and engagement objectives. With the student at the heart of all you do, we will look to you to develop and manage professional, targeted student communications and campaigns.

You’ll employ your creativity to write, produce and disseminate newsletters, stories and campaign plans. In pursuit of enhancing student experience, you’ll make decisions based on insight, having previous experience in undertaking research such as desk research and holding focus groups. It's important you have a sound knowledge of online channels as you’ll use our CRM system regularly and also work closely with our web team producing and preparing digital content.

We’re looking for someone with demonstrable experience of working in a communications role, either as part of a marketing communications or internal communication function. Excellent interpersonal skills are key; you’ll need to develop a broad network of contributors and stakeholders involved in making this role successful. You’ll be great at multi-tasking with top-notch organisational skills and comfortable communicating with a variety of different audiences. Experience within higher education is an added bonus but not essential.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Working closely with colleagues within Student Opportunity to plan and undertake a wide range of marketing and communication activities that support Student Opportunity’s student communication and engagement objectives and deliver in line with departmental aims. To have the student at the heart of all you do, this will include providing a professional campaign planning and communication service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. In collaboration with Student Opportunity, and in conjunction with the overall (student) communication strategy, to develop compelling activity plans that focus on the needs of students and deliver the strategic direction of Student Opportunity and the institution. You will lead the development of these plans, which would typically include establishing objectives (taking into account relevant strategies and ensuring that the Student Opportunity offer is inclusive), messaging, understanding of external and internal factors and audience needs, use of appropriate channels and mechanisms to evaluate and report on effectiveness of campaigns to relevant stakeholders.

2. Responsible for managing the planning and production of campaigns and communications content including digital assets, print materials, photography, videos, blog, and online content. The role will also contribute Student Opportunity content to core channels such as social media channels and the website. To work closely with the Student Opportunity IT team to support development of web content. To support Student Opportunity’s social media strategy, working with relevant MCI colleagues. To provide relevant audience insight and provide Student Opportunity key selling points, positioning and develop content to be used on identified channels.

3. To be the key relationship manager with Student Opportunity, advising on best practice, liaising with the Head of Operations & Information on Student Opportunity objectives, providing guidance and direction to the Student Opportunity Deputy Hub Coordinator on operational communications matters, and developing strong and effective relationships with Student Opportunity staff.

4. With support from the Market Research and Insight Team, in pursuit of enhanced student experience to develop a comprehensive understanding of audience and the external context, and use this to work with Student Opportunity to develop strong messaging.

5. Working in a virtual team across MCI, proactively contributing to and shaping marketing and communications projects and campaigns to support strategic objectives using an assigned budget and motivating and developing cross-functional teams to deliver results.
