POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide an effective manufacturing facility ensuring that all aspects of manufacturing and material development requirements are competently met. Directs the development and implementation of activities in manufacturing areas to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives. To control, develop and improve manufacturing processes whilst managing and monitoring quality standards. Supervising and ensuring that all projects and orders are completed efficiently, within deadlines and within budget.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prioritise and plan production schedules.
  • Develop schedules and resource requirements for assigned areas.
  • Control, develop and continuously improve manufacturing processes, layouts and activities.
  • Ensure quality and ISO standards are achieved.
  • To embrace continuous improvement and work closely with the Continuous Improvement Manager.
  • Work alongside the design and production team to manage projects.
  • Make budgetary recommendations and provide the finance department with annual budget for approval.
  • To ensure that all company plant, equipment, and tools are properly maintained.
  • Supervise onsite contractors.
  • Maintain and update operating and training manuals for each area of production.
  • To ensure that all technicians are trained on the most up to date version of the operating procedures.
  • Provide the Sales department with information and provide lead times.
  • Deal with customers and enquiries when required.
  • Produce monthly reports and attend operations and management meetings.
  • Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
  • Ensure that performance targets for efficiency and utilisation are met.

Health & Safety

  • Establish, manage, and monitor standards, processes, communications, training, and systems to ensure:
  • Existence and awareness of a suitable and relevant health and safety policy.
  • A safe workplace without risk to health.
  • Safe plant and machinery, and safe movement, storage and use of articles and substances.
  • Adequate provision of first aid and welfare facilities and support.
  • Provision of suitable and current information and supervision concerning health and safety policies and practices.
  • Proper and timely assessment of risks to health and safety, and implementation of measures and arrangements identified as necessary from the assessments.
  • Provision of emergency procedures, first-aid facilities, safety signs, relevant protective clothing and equipment, and incident reporting to the relevant authorities.
  • Liaison as necessary with other organisations and relevant authorities, and assistance and cooperation concerning audits and remedial actions.
  • The workplace satisfies health, safety and welfare requirements for ventilation, temperature, lighting, sanitary, washing and rest facilities.
  • Prevention and precautions against, or adequate control of, exposure to hazardous substances, and danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation and manual handling risks.
  • Surveillance and reporting on health and safety practices and systems.
  • Management and development of health and safety direct-reporting staff.
  • Develop personal experience and training to allow for provision of site specific risk assessments and method statements. Liaison with Main contractors for site work.

  • Lead and contribute to management meetings and group discussions, to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Ensure that immediate management are kept informed, in an appropriate level of detail, about activities, progress, results and achievements.
  • Encourage feedback from subordinates and provide feedback in sufficient detail and in a manner appropriate to the individual(s).
  • Commitment to the development of the management team.
  • Abide by company rules and regulations as detailed in the Staff Handbook.
  • Attend meetings and training courses when necessary.
  • Maintain a flexible approach to all aspects of the job.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Ability to prioritise workload against changing demands.
  • A good understanding of working in a Continuous Improvement environment.
  • Basic/Intermediate understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Able to support others effectively within a change environment.
  • Capable of working with teams with a complexity of skills (Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, etc.).
  • Good written and verbal communications skills including group presentation.
  • Intermediate knowledge of manufacturing processes and other business process improvement tools.
  • A sharp eye for identifying efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in all areas of the business.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and other documents.
  • Good computer skills, including the use of windows, email, and Microsoft office.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HNC (equivalent) or higher in a Manufacturing related qualification.
  • NEBOSH.
