This is a hands-on practical apprenticeship that will allow you to develop skills in machining techniques and fault-finding maintenance activities across the site.
Where will I be working?
This role is based at our Miskin site near Llantrisant, South Wales, you may on occasion be required to travel to other Renishaw sites for work. You will need the ability to travel independently to college and work.
What will I do?
You will learn a range of skills including soldering, assembly of products, machining, and maintenance of equipment. During the four-year apprenticeship you will learn and develop engineering skills and knowledge through onsite work placements, whilst also studying for nationally recognised qualifications at a local college.
The first year of this Advanced Apprenticeship is based in full time education at Bridgend College where you learn practical and theoretical engineering knowledge in a range of subjects.
In the second and third years, you will rotate around the division in placements, spending time in assembly/production areas, machine shop and maintenance department. You will be required to work shift patterns as part of some of these placements. You will also attend college on a day release basis and work towards an NVQ qualification in work.
On successful completion of the EAL Level 3 in the second year, there is the opportunity to progress to an HNC in electrical or mechanical engineering in years 3 and 4. Once you transfer off the programme, you will move into the manufacturing division where you will specialise and continue to apply and develop new learning and skills.
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will meet regularly with our apprentice team to assess ongoing performance.

- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Experience software packages including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- A current or recent job, this does not need to be relevant to engineering and can be a paper round or Saturday job, as this demonstrates maturity, responsibility and independence.
