Job Description Summary
Stanford Anatomic Pathology & Clinical Laboratories provides pathology and laboratory testing services to patients from Stanford Health Care, Stanford Children’s Health and outside institutions. We are committed to provide outstanding test quality and case evaluations to bring our patients the diagnosis needed to plan care.

Stanford’s Clinical Pathology Service diagnoses disease based on the laboratory analysis of bodily fluids, such as blood, urine, and tissue homogenates or extracts using the tools of chemistry, microbiology, hematology and molecular pathology.

A Brief Overview
Manages the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the clinical laboratories. Ensures that programs, policies and procedures are established and implemented to meet customer needs, department standards and regulatory agency requirements. Assesses and determines the staffing needs and practices of the department to optimize the utilization of personnel. Provides leadership and technical direction to staff in the achievement of business objectives.

What you will do

  • Communicates and provides leadership to supervisors and staff in the implementation of new processes and techniques. Collaborates with Laboratory and Medical Directors in establishing strategic plans and development of new programs to improve efficiency, quality, compliance, service and financial outcomes for the laboratories.
  • Develops, administers, and monitors the operating budget and cost accounting data for assigned area of responsibility. Collaborates with the Finance Manager to ensure that annual operating budgets for outreach needs are developed, implemented and monitored to meet the financial goals of the organization.
  • Manages all operational issues related to laboratory information system and provides leadership in the development and maintenance of the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Provide input and operational decisions in the implementation of information systems projects. Provides feedback for future information technology.
  • Manages the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the clinical laboratories.
  • Ensure that programs, policies and procedures are developed and implemented in accordance with department, quality and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Provides leadership and support to Supervisors and staff to monitor operating performance, standardize laboratory practices, optimize human and financial resources, maintain productivity and resolve technical, service and non-operational issues.
  • Rotates as administrator-on-call for the consolidated laboratories and under the guidance of the medical director or director of operations, directs response to critical or emergent situations.
  • Supports the development and implementation of quality assurance programs; provide leadership and support to the Outreach supervisors and staff to develop systems and tools to measure satisfaction and quality of care against industry bench marks.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.


Experience Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • Experience working in an academic medical center setting and technical experience in an Anatomic pathology laboratory.

  • Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, train, and evaluate work results.
  • Ability to work effectively both as a team player and leader.
  • Knowledge of chemistry, biology, microbiology and related laboratory sciences.
  • Knowledge of laboratory controls, methods, procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of mathematics general science and laboratory techniques.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $68.38 - $90.62 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
