Senior Machinist

Senior Machinists play a key role in our manufacturing process, operating within a diverse team of Machinists and Machine Operators to execute the Machining phases of projects, producing parts using computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision components. The role provides senior level Machining knowledge to the team and collaborates with design to facilitate efficiency once projects are in production and also knowledge within the scoping phase of projects. Essentially, a Senior machinists' goal is to ensure effective production operations and optimize procedures to produce high quality, precision parts, bringing technical leadership to the team dynamic and monitor quality control throughout the machining phase.
Other essential duties include interfacing with other departments to solve problems, observing processes that support the wider business, having an active role in site safety, and ensuring that, with an emphasis collaboration and teamwork, share, mentor & develop skill sets with the team to help develop/grow the team dynamics we always strive to execute on manufacturing to the highest possible standards.
Shift Pattern Rotating Weekly – Please note, the shift pattern could vary depending on business needs.
Week 1 – 6am to 2pm
Week 2 – 2pm to 10pm
Week 3 – 10pm to 6am
Main Outcomes of the Position:
- Manufacture of components to supplied CAD files and drawings.
- This will encompass setting and operating multi-axis computer numerically controlled machining centre and manually setting and operating XYZ/VMC/Press Brake machines.
- Whenever possible you will be required to set and operate more than one machine.
- Ensures that work area is clean and housekeeping in the workplace is kept to a high standard.
- Monitor QC of machining phase – Check parts manufactured by others within team.
- Complete work allocated in a timely manner.
- Maintain delivery of quality projects to scheduled department/Delivery dates.
- Collaborate with other departments to help set design direction & problem solving etc.
- Use of individual training platform to facilitate personal growth.
- Coach/Mentor & train team to develop team dynamics/skillsets.
- Ensures that the working environment is safe.
- Ensure material stocks are kept in line with company procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Read, interpret, follow engineering drawings to manufacture precision parts.
- Ensure parts are manufactured to desired tolerances as instructed.
- Work within & according to health & safety guidelines to maintain personal and others safety.
- Work to process, incorporating SSOW's/Quality standards. (clean, Deburred etc).
- Engage in root cause analysis and resolve problems.
- Participate in design reviews to provide constructive feedback and expertise.
- Periodically check all equipment is maintained to high standards and report issues.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance including but not limited to checking oil, grease and coolant.
- Perform housekeeping in area including but not limited to sweeping, mopping and cleaning tools and machines.
- Evaluate materials/parts etc before activities carried out and on completion of parts conform to quality checks. Report via NCR if any issues.
- Maintain clean & safe working environment.
- Comply with clock procedures to comply with company processes.
- Be flexible to perform duties throughout other departments.
- Engage in personal development programs/Training.
- Engage in mentoring/training others within team.
- Operate within individual & team environment maintaining work ethics individually and alongside other team members.
- Ownership/Identification of all machined parts (Marking/Labelling of parts manufactured)
- Ensure all scrap materials are placed in appropriate recycling/waste bins.
- Ensure all spare materials are placed in appropriate storage place with correct GRN displayed.
- Communication between line manager/colleagues.
