Machine Operator
Spicers is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of black, green & speciality tea and fruit & herbal infusions. The company has 2 sites, Head Office in Ferndown, Dorset and a large manufacturing plant in Newcastle to support its blending expertise with the facilities to produce high volume bespoke tea blends. Spicers is now the chosen tea supplier of some of the largest UK supermarkets at the same time offering a broad portfolio of well-known branded teas.
We are looking to recruit Machine Operators for the Newcastle plant. Hours of work are Early Shift Monday to Friday 0630 to 1430, Late Shift Monday to Thursday 1430 to 2300 and Friday 1430 to 2030 (Finish at 2010 with reduced break) rotating weekly. You may be required to work a night shift on occasion.
We are looking for machine operators who have specific experience of working in a food manufacturing environment. Rate of pay is £11.41p/h once training and probationary period is fully completed and signed off.
Responsible for all aspects of the day to day operation of the production machinery within the tea room
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Operation of the production machinery to ensure maximum efficiency, minimum downtime and material waste
- Ensure the product meets all aspects of the customer specification and is produced to the highest possible quality standard
- Ensure the product uses the correct packaging and tea, is coded and labelled correctly as of the customer specification
- Ensure the product is palletised to the correct format as of the customer specification
- Adhere to all hygiene standards as of the company policy and ensure that areas of work are left clean and tidy at the end of each shift.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety guidelines, policies and procedures
- Ensure quality checks are carried out as of the company procedures
- Complete operator production line control sheets in full as of the company procedures
- Escalate downtime, quality issues to the shift engineers and/or the shift manager timely and efficiently
- Carryout product changeovers as efficiently as possible and adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Carryout machine cleaning as laid down in the procedures or as directed by the shift manager.
- Assist engineers with basic maintenance as and when directed
- Assist with packing as and when required by the shift manager
- Communicate any issue had during the shift to the operator on the next shift
- Ensure the next shift comes into a running machine as far as reasonable practicable
- Monitor the weights via the Loma to ensure the product is not under or overpacked during a production run.
- Any other reasonable duty assigned by the Shift Manager, or by the management of Keith Spicer Ltd.
