Location - Stevenage, Hertfordshire
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance
TRAVEL UK travel up to 6 x a year, European travel approx. 3 x a year

An exciting role working within a transnational team, you will be supporting the design and manufacturing of communication and scientific satellites and missions, within the Materials Department working on projects such as Orbiter, FORUM, Vigil, EnVision, Biomass, Eurostar Neo and OneSat.
You will provide technical solutions to materials related issues which arise during the design, manufacture and test of flight hardware and the team mission of assuring correct materials qualification for mission specific requirements.
Your Materials Engineering knowledge and experience (properties and applications of metallics and surface technology related) will be routinely sought by both Design and Manufacturing teams, as will the development of new materials and processes for future applications.
How you will contribute
- Acquisition and execution of research and technology, development and qualification projects in the area of surface treatments, coatings, primers and paints and corrosion protection as well as metallurgy
- Preparation of material and process specifications as well as process and test instructions
- Support to obsolescence management and change requests
- Support to environmental compliance (REACH regulation) programs
- Consultancy to design, stress, quality and manufacturing for materials and process related enquiries
- Assessment of concessions and deviation requests
- Collaboration with external institutes and universities
- Steering and collaboration with material and process suppliers
About you
- Master degree or PhD in material science, chemistry or aerospace engineering with material focus
- Experience in surface and coatings technologies as well as corrosion protection mandatory (anodising, chemical treatments, paints, aluminium and titanium treatments, etc.)
- Experience in laboratory environments for materials studies
- Experience in metallurgy
- Experience in space industry and its related processes such as qualification, certification and standardisation preferred
- A strong ability to work independently
