ROLE OVERVIEW
- The candidate will oversee the efficient running of all logisitcs operations, by leading members of the team, coordinating and communicating workload schedules, providing clear and concise communication to other departments and reporting results back to management. This role covers a mix of palletways, partial and full load UK business, and full load / container to support our international business. They must demonstrate a professional and positive ‘can do’ attitude that reflects the culture and high standards of the organisation whilst able to motivate all team players to achieve specified quality standards, delivery targets, business objectives and cooperation across all business units. This role is responsible for 4 direct reports, and a strong influencing leader for 8x additional personnel involved regularly in transport activities. There are key internal relationships with customer care, quality, purchasing, finance and production management, and key external relationships with the import/export authorities, transport providers and a limited set of customer’s logistics departments.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 20% of the workload Personnel Leadership
Leading from the floor by driving a Forklift truck (FLT) to move product and load vehicles
Ensuring efficient usage of labour hours
Planning labour requirements on a weekly basis, directing the activities and hours for direct reports
Optimising labour distribution according to priorities to deliver the transport requirements
Maintain skills matrix for all personnel across the site involved in transport, identifying, and acting upon skill gaps
Rotation of staff within the team to ensure a good balance of skill sets and cross training Goods inwards
Manage the Goods In process for all inbound raw materials and goods. Ensuring that all raw materials are identified, booked in and distributed correctly around site based on business needs.
Control the storage of goods inwards and prestaged goods outwards
JOB TITLE LOGISTICS MANAGER DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS REPORTS TO PRODUCT MANAGER
Monitor and communicate transport requirements to and from the business and team by liaising with the Customer Service Team and the Purchasing Manager using supplied production processes (Hand over sheets, registers, skills matrix, etc.)
Creating the 4-week forwards shipping schedule, working closely with the customer care team
Maintaining the next 3-days shipping schedule Liaising with logistic companies to arrange collections and deliveries. Booking and tracking shipments on relevant systems
Managing all logistics paperwork and systems including but not limited to, receipt and despatch documentation
Controlling and reporting logistics costs Professional skills
Being the first line of escalation for external drivers onsite
Ensuring loads are properly distributed and secured
Responsibility for pallet packaging
Taking a proactive approach to ensure the quality of picking, packing and loading
Manage the mobile plant fleet and onsite fuels etc., ensuring all are operated and serviced correctly (with support of the engineering team)
Manage the Forklift fob system, liaising with Production Managers and other supervisors to ensure all driving behaviours onsite are to the highest safety standards
Manage the logistics suppliers as first line resolution for any issues
MANDATORY RESPONSIBILITIES

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Experience working as a supervisor in a fast paced, high pressured manufacturing environment
Set quality standards for the department in terms of delivery presentation standards, demonstrates attention to detail and high personal standards
Supervisory skills including, coaching and motivating a team
Issue resolution – covering product, process and personnel
Good communication skills, verbally and in writing at all levels
PC skills using Microsoft Office applications, maintaining and managing to KPIs
Forklift License
Ability to work on own initiative with a strong continuous improvement mentality
Flexible and forward-thinking approach
Process management and improvement experience Your line Manager will be the Production Manager. All staff at Oxford Plastics are required to work as part of a team, and therefore you can also expect to report into senior members of staff across other areas of the business. You may at times be required to support other roles and responsibilities within the business, in addition to your regular roles and responsibilities outlined above.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Hourly rate Circa £40-45K
Bonus 0.25% Profit Share*
Working Hours Monday – Friday 08:00 – 17:00
Pension 3% employer contribution
Annual leave 25 days + BH This job description reflects the present requirements of the role. The job description will be reviewed annually as part of an appraisal process. As duties and responsibilities change and develop, the job description will be subject to amendment in consultation with the job holder.
