REQUIREMENTS
WAVA Hall is a Creative, Cultural, Community, and Business Centre offering a warm welcome to local community members as well as incubation and acceleration support to budding creative talent and creative practitioners. The centre offers a variety of services, activities, and events as well as function rooms, a cafe, music studio, hair and beauty facilities and activities welcoming local people of all ages.
We are looking for a hard-working, honest, dependable, self-motivated person to act as the
WAVA Hall Centre Caretaker. Successful applicants will be expected to complete a DBS check.

Hours Basic hours are 27 hours per week (11am to 8pm) with guaranteed overtime outside of working hours.
Working days Thursday, Friday, and Saturday

Salary £10.50 per hour (Zero Hour contract)
Job Purpose To provide a caretaking and security service for the
Community Centre buildings.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide a reception service for visitors and assist with enquiries.
- Deal with telephone calls.
- Be responsible for the secure holding and issue of keys.
- Set up and pack down of each room according to the bookings diary; including but not limited to set up of chairs, tables, tea, coffee and urns, projectors, TV’s and so on.
- Supervise cleaners to ensure daily cleaning and upkeep of the building.
- Maintenance of the building including but not limited to, vacuuming, general cleaning, mopping floors, shampooing carpets and cleaning glass.
- Putting out bins in preparation for pick-up, ensuring that external rubbish is stored appropriately and arranging its disposal.
- Pick up litter and be responsible for the removal of all debris from paths, grassed areas, flowerbeds and all entrances/exits.
- General maintenance and minor repair work including; doors, windows, toilet seats and flushes, furniture, tap washers and some painting of doors and walls. (This list is not exhaustive, but an example).
- Maintenance of equipment e.g. urns, digital projectors, tables and chairs as needed.
- Appropriate painting and redecoration
- Inventory management of cleaning supplies, toilet rolls, tissue paper, tea, coffee and other refreshments supplies.
- Check damage/security every morning on arrival at the premises.
- Receive mail, parcels, and supplies and take them to the appropriate place for storage.
- Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes.
- Report any defects in the building, furniture, fittings and equipment to management.
- Assist with fire evacuations and other security-related procedures.
- Monitor outside activity via television screens and take action where necessary.
- Understand and implement fire safety regulations, Health and Safety regulations, emergency procedures and the rules for evacuating the building, test fire alarms weekly and maintain test register.

- Any other work requested by, and deemed appropriate by, the Centre Manager.
Security
- Opening and closing, unlocking and locking of the building and each room.
- Occasionally open and close the building for evening and weekend use at times as required by function room bookings.
- Checking and securing the premises subsequent to out-of-hours intruder alarm activation.
- Be the first point of contact in an emergency, responding to, and resetting of, the building alarm, liaising with the police and alarm company out of hours as needed.
- Overall security of the premises including the locking of all windows and doors.
- You may be occasionally called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with security issues, make emergency repairs, or allow access to any contractor who may be working on the site.
Heating, Lighting and Water
- The switching on and off of all lights and appropriate electric plug sockets.
- Ensure that all lights and heating are working effectively, changing light bulbs and occasionally working at height.
- Read Gas, Electric and Water meters as required.
- Monitoring and setting of heating controls and boilers for each room as needed.
- Ensure that the plant room and all storage rooms and cupboards are tidy.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience Dealing with all levels of staff and the general public.
- Using Microsoft Office or other software packages as an information source is desirable.
- Receiving and sending e-mails is desirable.
- Buildings security responsibilities desirable.
Skills and personal A caretaker should:

- Stay calm in an emergency, for example if there is a break-in or fire.
- Have good verbal communication skills to deal with children and adults.
- Understand safe working practices and health and safety legislation.
- Be well-organised and capable of prioritizing their own work.
- Be happy to work on their own and/or capable of supervising people.
- Be flexible and enjoy a varied routine.
- Be physically fit and capable as heavy lifting may be required.
- Be able to meet targets and work to a schedule.
- Be able to follow instructions.
- The post holder will need a strong commitment to helping members of the community get involved and manage the
Centre. The post holder will also need to be self-reliant, energetic, and able to prioritize activities.
Desirable Skills Be practical and have experience in D.I.Y.
