We welcome applications for the role of Logistics and Planning Officer, within our Intelligence unit. The successful applicant will be required to have experience of managing sensitive intelligence in support of serious crime investigations, ability to work effectively and have proven organisational, planning and time management skills.

We work with a range of partners to protect the public and national security by preventing, deterring and investigating terrorist activity. Our staff across the country are responsible for our bespoke capability relating to intelligence and information from a wide variety of sources to enable decision-makers to resolve threat operations.

In this role you will be privy to sensitive intelligence and tactics, and your expertise and that of your teams is crucial in enhancing operational activity and terrorist investigations. You will be responsible for managing the handling of information and intelligence, and ensuring adherence to processes and compliance with legislation, often whilst working under great pressure.

Please note that this role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you may be required to travel for business purposes mainly across the south east region and occasionally throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level DV. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National andhave resided in the UK for the past ten years. Exemptions apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that equipment is resilient, secure and readily deployable (when required), whilst being routinely maintained in accordance with mandated servicing, IT updates and security regimes and that the geographic distribution is co-ordinated accordingly.
  • Manage/design intelligence for national tiered exercises to provide an exercise control facility whilst liaising extensively with various key stakeholders (internally and externally), attending and influencing national planning meetings.
  • Assist in the design of national training and to write/deliver national CT exercises where the secure equipment would be deployed, ensuring staff forming the national cadres are adequately prepared to undertake the required roles.
  • Develop specific contingency plans throughout the UK at locations from which command may be discharged whilst forming part of the Critical National Infrastructure and police SCCs. Ensure effective plans are in place for the deployment capabilities in key locations and by key staff.
  • Co-ordinate the effective deployment of equipment in support of training, planned exercises and ‘no notice’ responses to incidents/events whilst assisting the delivery of effective training/exercising for cadre staff and other interdependent roles.
  • Provide initial response to incidents whilst coordinating, deploying and operating CT resources within the appropriate governance, this includes IT equipment maintenance, advising on vehicle/equipment failures, operating of systems, transferring data, managing intelligence. Securing/co-ordinating appropriate remedial action when beyond their own capability to ensure the successful deployment of the mobile operational equipment to maintain operational readiness and effectiveness.
  • Identify and action equipment procurement through approved channels to ensure the capability continually exploits technological developments and maximises its effectiveness through the use of appropriate supporting equipment.
  • Ensure that any deployment complies with security accreditation at all times. Challenges any breaches to the requirement and correctly reports any breaches as required.
  • Undertake other logistical and support tasks when required to provide resilience and logistical contingency in unforeseen circumstances.

Further comments

  • The post holders would be required to accept the flexibility to work outside of their strict remit and potentially for protracted periods in such cases.
  • The post holders will be required to be on call and to respond to call outs from the CT network in respect of no notice incidents.
  • The role requires the staff to work as intelligence officers during the initial hours of a CT incident to support the network.

Required knowledge/skills
Essential

  • Ability to work effectively, both as part of a team and unsupervised, and to manage and co-ordinate personal workloads throughout the UK.
  • Computer literate, with good basic working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Good basic knowledge of IT equipment and its routine operation and maintenance.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to coordinate and control internal and external partners in an operational environment.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of investigative and evidential considerations.
  • Self-motivated with flexible approach in terms of working times and able to cope with pressure, using initiative to solve problems.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.
  • Willingness to learn IT systems, with the ability to train/coach individuals and act as a point of contact for system issues i.e. CLIO.
  • Must have capability to travel to different locations across the UK, and undertake all assignments in a timely manner. Due to the requirement to work flexibly, unsocial hours and personal safety for lone working; public transport may not be available or suitable at these times. For this reason a full UK driving licence, including C1 qualification and willingness to undertake further driver training is considered essential.
