Job description

About Live Longer Better and Learning with Experts

There is now strong evidence that many of the problems that we associate with ageing are the result of three other inter-related causes: loss of fitness, disease (which can then lead to accelerated loss of fitness) and negative beliefs and attitudes.

The good news is that we now know that everyone has the power to fight back. Live Longer Better is a system designed to create an environment and culture with the expectation that people of any age, no matter how many long-term conditions they may have, can achieve their potential if given appropriate information and support rather than simply having more things done for them.

At the core of the Live Longer Better system is an online learning programme that combines broadcast-quality video content with an interactive facilitated small group environment. The programme consists of 12 parts and delivers:

  • knowledge regarding what happens as we get older, the benefits of living longer better and how to do so;
  • motivation and confidence to set and achieve goals, and to change habits to achieve those goals; and
  • tools and resources to make real, practical change including a practical task for each of the 12 topics covered.

Live Longer Better is now being made available to people across the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) area who have two or more long term conditions and are at increased risk of hospital admission as a result.

The Live Longer Better online programme is delivered by Learning with Experts. Our business customers include universities, vocational and professional training providers and, of course, the healthcare sector. We are a small, tight-knit and collaborative team at the beginning of a period of rapid growth with lots of exciting and creative projects in the pipeline.

Job Overview

As the Live Longer Better coach for BNSSG you will play a key role in the delivery of the programme. You’ll be responsible for coaching people on the Learning with Experts platform, providing personalised support that helps them to connect with the Live Longer Better objectives through the online content and interactive classes.

You’ll work closely with Professor Sir Muir Gray, former chief knowledge officer of the NHS and the driving force behind Live Longer Better, and the Learning with Experts team including Mark Fishleigh, Commercial Director, as well as a range of activity and care providers across BNSSG.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising with referrers (such as PCNs and social prescribing link workers)
  • Registering and managing referred individuals on the online learning platform
  • Managing any special requirements in relation to content or platform access
  • Interacting with participants on the programme - replying to questions and encouraging / facilitating class discussions
  • Providing practical feedback and support to participants, including reviewing and providing feedback on their completed tasks such as personal objectives and action plans
  • Monitoring each participant’s progress through the programme and collating survey data on adoption and impact

About you

You’ll bring with you:

  • Experience coaching older adults
  • A caring and professional approach
  • A passion for coaching and engaging with participants throughout the programme
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in multi-tasking, being able to prioritise effectively
  • A strong sense of ownership around your role and ability to thrive working in a fast-paced environment
  • Relish for working in an online environment using digital tools and standard office software
