About us:
We are looking for a hostel assistant to join our friendly, dedicated team at our gorgeous bunkhouse in north Skye. This is your opportunity to get to know and promote the wonderful Isle of Skye!
The Cowshed Boutique Bunkhouse is a 34 bed bunkhouse with dorm style accommodation alongside 8 beautiful ensuite ‘pods’, overlooking Uig Bay. We offer fantastic facilities, exceptional hospitality, and incredible views, with a keen eye for style and comfort. https://www.skyecowshed.co.uk/
Uig is a small and friendly village with an excellent general store, a filling station, a hotel, a pub, a restaurant, a couple of take-aways and a brewery. For anything else you need it’s a quick drive to Portree on the best road on the island. It’s the perfect base for the adventurous with easy access to the highlights of the island, and the ferry pier which is the gateway to the Outer Hebrides.
What we are looking for:
-A hard working, capable and responsible individual. We’re looking for someone interested in being an allrounder to take pride in this amazing place.
-An enthusiastic, can-do attitude and an ability to show initiative, with great attention to detail.
-Someone unafraid of changeable Scottish weather conditions!
-Someone professional and flexible, who is happy to cover a mixture of shifts and deliver customer service to a high standard.
-An interest in Skye/Scotland, and in getting to know the local area if not already living here.
-A good knowledge of hostelling (either as a guest, or an employee), and how to exceed guest expectation.
-Experience of using computers.
-Ability to work independently as well as in a team. We are a small crew so reliability and great communication is a must.
-Fluency in English
The Job:
-The most important considerations of the job are the comfort, safety and enjoyment of all guests staying at the property.
-A mixture of reception tasks, cleaning duties and occasional DIY duties are required.
-Between 35 and 40 hours of work per week.
-Live-in is compulsory, as being on-call overnight is part of general responsibilities.
-Answering directly to the hostel manager and working together to provide cover at all times.
Live-in:
- A cute wee pod onsite, sharing facilities in the neighbouring cottage with two other full-time staff.
- No rent, no bills.
The job will run initially for 6 months from March (start date the week of March 20-26) 2022 to cover the busy summer and autumn seasons, with the possibility of continued employment for the right applicant.
