Job Brief:
Lighting Design is a process, which is a part of the architectural and interior design projects, to determine how lighting/light fittings are going to influence the space. As a lighting designer, you will understand the lighting requirements of projects in varied sectors such as commercial, residential, medical and educational and provide lighting designs in specific lighting design software, which would include lux level calculations, number of luminaires required, type of luminaires required, emergency lighting calculations, etc.

RICOMAN are getting an increasing number of requests for lighting designs and as a result are seeking to grow their lighting design department with a forward-thinking Lighting Design Trainee who has creative skills and a technical mind. The skills and experiences listed below are qualities that are desirable, however, full training will be provided.
The role will be based at RICOMAN HQ in Salford Quays next to Media City and is a full time permanent role. Salary will start at £21500 per annum and full training will be provided. There is good career progression potential. We can offer sponsorship to Skilled Workers visa.

Responsibilities:
- In your role as a lighting designer, you will be exposed and trained to a wide variety of tasks. Initially, you will assist senior lighting designers in all their tasks as well as develop your own skills/tools to produce and communicate lighting designs fully from concept to completion.
- Ensuring that lighting details and equipment are integrated into the Architectural, Interior and Engineering Designs.
- Read and analyse electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Production of both artificial and daylight lighting calculations/modelling using Lighting design software such as Relux.
- Outlining detailed lighting layouts and annotations using AutoCAD.
- Ensuring that lighting schemes meet the required requirements and legislations and design requirements.
- Participate in and when appropriate, lead on projects internally advising on lighting calculations and ideal use of specific products.
Desired to have:
- A degree with grade 2.1 or above, or equivalent qualification in any creative field is desirable.
- A good and developing understanding of creative design tools such as; Blender, Revit, Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator, or similar is desirable.
- Some knowledge of 2D-drawing tools and approaches such as AutoCAD or similar would be beneficial.
- Some experience of 3D modelling packages such as AutoCAD 3D, Rhino 3D, Sketch-up, 3DS Max etc. would be beneficial or would have the desire to learn them in the future.
- An eye for detail and the ability to work accurately
- A motivated self-learner
- You should be well organised, comfortable in managing your own projects and working with and supporting others within a team ethos.
- Will be a team player with the ability to use your own initiative
- Will have outstanding written and verbal communication skills as you will be working closely with several other teams within the business.
