Balfour Beatty Vinci has an exciting opportunity for an Lifting Appointed Person to join our team based in Coleshill Coventry
What you’ll be doing
As an Lifting Appointed Person you’ll be working alongside our team helping to deliver the biggest civils infrastructure project in the UK.
Some of the duties you will have include:
Responsible for supervising lifting operations and ensuring the Lift Plan is adhered to.
Taking responsibility for the supervision of the lifting operation in accordance with the approved Lift Plan, from arrival to departure of the lifting equipment and including setting up and undertaking the lifting operation
. · Reviewing the Lift Plan, ensuring it covers the lifting operation from start to finish, and remains relevant to the actual situation on site at the time of the lift.
- Briefing the lifting team on the contents of the Lift Plan and ensuring understanding is tested and recorded (in the form of Lift Plan briefings and toolbox talks.
- Ensuring the lift team have had a full project induction and have been appointed to their role
. · Monitoring the competence, alertness and engagement of the lift team assigned to the lifting operation and stopping the lift if shortcomings are noted.
- Ensuring the lifting operation is included on the Start of Shift briefing, such that interfaces and controls in relation to other site works and hazards are understood by the whole project team.
- Ensuring only lifting equipment and accessories as identified by the AP are used in the lifting operation and only in the configuration specified. Stopping the lift if not.
- Ensuring that any movement limiting device, where used to limit movement, is secured or locked and key removed.
- Ensuring that adequate pre-operational checks, intermediate inspections, maintenance and Thorough Examinations of the equipment / accessories have been carried out.
- Ensuring that sufficient breaks are taken to avoid the onset of fatigue in the lifting team
. · Providing feedback to the AP on any issues encountered during the lifting operation, any improvements that could be made to the lifting operation and any concerns with the lifting operation in general.
- Retaining sufficient records of experience (e.g. logbooks, Lift Plans, RAMS, toolbox talks etc.) such that a CV of experience can be established to assist in future appointments and competence demonstration.
The ideal candidate for the role would have the below:
- Valid and in date CPCS A61 (Blue card) or NPORS N401 Appointed Person for Lifting Operations qualification, this would be supplemented with time served experience in the role.
- A solid and robust understanding of BS7121, LOLER and PUWER.
- Be able to delegate jobs withing the lifting team, communicate the ins and outs of a lift plan to the lifting team and any other parties that maybe involved in the lifting operation i.e. site team, TW team or engineers.
- Demonstrate the ability to time manage and prioritise site operations and individual workloads.
