Pompey Health & Fitness Club is a 2,500-member health club joined on to the training camp for Portsmouth Football Club. We are looking for an outgoing and enthusiastic individual to join the health club team in the role of Leisure Professional / Lifeguard. The role is essential to our health club users: to offer a warm, friendly and safe environment for our guests, be motivating to gym users and enjoy being able to make a difference to our guests and members throughout the club.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about customer care. You will also be committed to achieving the highest standards of cleanliness, maintenance and safety. You will also be able to demonstrate professionalism and self-motivation, and have the ability to remain calm under pressure. As a Leisure Professional you will also need to be a competent swimmer and have a keen awareness of health & safety considerations.
Previous experience working in the leisure industry would be a distinct advantage; the ideal candidate would also holding a Gym Qualification and / or a current NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification). However for someone demonstrating the required characteristics and a strong interest in following a career in the leisure industry, full training is available to help you achieve the necessary qualifications.
The responsibilities of a Leisure Professional include:
- Carrying out reception duties including taking membership enquiries;
- meeting and greeting members and guests;
- formulating fitness programmes and reviews;
- lifeguarding;
- working effectively as part of a team to ensure a friendly, fun and safe environment for members, guests and colleagues.

It is essential that you are a competent swimmer, and candidates will be asked to perform a swimming assessment as part of the selection process.

The position is part time and hours are flexible over a 7-day shift pattern, including evenings and weekends.
