Lifeguard
The School
Founded in 1915, St Christopher School is an independent day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 3-
18. We have 535 pupils and 199 teaching and support staff. We have no school uniform and everyone is called
by their first name. We have no religious affiliation and welcome students and staff of all faiths and none.

The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a lifeguard to join our team at St Christopher School Swimming Pool “facilities”
to ensure that the highest standards of service to St Christopher students, staff and members of the public
are maintained at all times.
Main Duties
To Operate under the immediate direction of the Head of Swimming, ensuring that our procedures
and working instructions are fully implemented
To carry out duties at all times as specified within the swimming pool normal operating procedures,
emergency action plans, Health and Safety Policy and working instructions.
Ensure the Health and Safety of all persons using and visiting the Swimming Pool.
To carry out Lifeguard Duties on Poolside on a rotation basis as directed by the Head of Swimming
and/or Pool Manager.
Ensure that all Swimming Pool areas are cleaned and maintained to the highest standard.
To inform the Head of Swimming of any major issues/problems.
When required, to be a key holder for the Swimming Pool.
To assist with the training of all new Staff (on job training).
To ensure the proper use of the facilities by students and members of the public.
To undertake facility monitoring to ensure that agreed tasks are undertaken in the correct manner
to the specified standard.
To ensure all equipment is safe, clean and in excellent and usable condition at all times and to report
defects to the Head of Swimming Manager as necessary in line with operating procedures (health
and safety is paramount at all times).
To carry out pool water tests accurately as detailed on the Swimming Pool Water Testing Report
Form and report all problems/irregularities to the Head of Swimming immediately
To assist in the implementation of the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and
the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992 ensuring personal compliance at all
times, and to specifically ensure compliance with key Health and Safety Regulations including
COSHH, Risk Assessments, PPE, EAP’s and NOP’s Manual Handling and other relevant legislation. To
keep up to date with changing Health and Safety legislation and new systems of work.
Under the direction of the Head of Swimming and/or Pool Manager, patrol facility areas ensuring
that adequate security is provided throughout each shift, ensuring that there is a high staff presence
in evidence at all times.
To have a working knowledge and understanding of the requirements of Health and Safety in
Swimming Pools and to operate at all times within these guidelines.
To administer first aid and emergency treatments as required.
To teach, instruct or assist with swimming lessons/other activities where qualified and experienced
to do so. Some of this teaching/instruction will be expected while on shift if at any time there is a
shortfall in teachers/instructors.
To carry out teaching/coaching duties as required and where suitably qualified and experienced to
do so.
To undertake other areas of responsibilities as directed by the Head of Swimming and/or Pool
Manager I.e. Swimming lessons, holiday activities/programmes, staff rotas etc.
To take part in regular staff training sessions (it is your responsibility to maintain a current National
Pool Lifeguard qualification.
To carry out Receptionist duties.

Person Specification:
Essential Job Requirements
Ability to communicate with customers effectively and effectively
¨Knowledge and skills in the implementation of systems and procedures.
A current Pool Lifeguard Qualification
Knowledge of health and safety
Valid NPLQ qualification
Friendly, helpful, flexible, self-motivated, communicative and a team player.
Be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Fit and healthy to undertake the requirements of the post.
Hours of work
Various shifts will be available to include afternoon and evening sessions.
Rate of Pay
The role is set on Basic rates £9.50 (under 20) - £10.71 (21+) per hour, plus holiday pay.
