We are looking for three enthusiastic Senior Library Assistants to work in the historic Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera and to undertake a range of reader services and collections maintenance duties whilst providing high quality customer service. You will contribute to the processes and procedures of the Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera and help train and support colleagues in the provision of library services as well as reader induction.
You will be a lead in one of the three different areas of responsibility in the library. These are:
- Bodleian Old Library collections maintenance.
- Radcliffe Camera administration of the lending service.
- Radcliffe Camera collections maintenance/ Inductions, Information Skills and Outreach.
All candidates will be interviewed for the three roles on offer, and the job description details the responsibilities shared between all posts and the individual areas of expertise that differentiate the three roles.
You will be educated to A level or equivalent, and have experience of working in a customer-facing role in a library. You will have the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and courteously with library users, colleagues and the public. You will have excellent organisational and IT skills and you will have the ability to work independently using your own initiative and as part of a team.
This is a permanent, full-time post, working 36.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders and kick-stools in order to access some of the library’s bookshelves and to re-shelve materials.
The department is currently going through organisational change as part of a review to provide more effective and efficient library user provision across the Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera. This may result in reasonable amendments to the job description which will be done in consultation with the post holder.
