Licensed Animal Technologist
Permanent

37.5 hours per week plus alternate weekend work with generous overtime payments

Department overview:
The primary functions of Laboratory Animal Sciences are the implementation and adherence to the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. and to ensure that the work conducted is in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice. LAS comprises of separate animal facilities, each having a particular focus either by species and/or by study type. The LAS team consists of staff of various grades and experience. Unlike many other establishments within the industry, members of LAS receive extensive cross-training and are trained in a wide variety of techniques and procedures in all the species housed within the facilities. The general responsibilities for LAS are the monitoring of all aspects of the animals' health and welfare and to provide the highest hygiene standards, which would include:
- The recognition, reporting and resolution of any impact to the health and well-being of the animals.
- The provision of food, water and environmental enrichment.
- The measurement and recording of body weights, food and water consumption.
- The cleaning and sanitisation of all facilities including the caging, pens and equipment.
- The monitoring and general upkeep of all the animal facilities.
The conduct of all experimental procedures as required by the study plan, which may include:
- The administration of test items utilising numerous routes.
- The withdrawal of bodily fluids such as blood and urine.
- The monitoring and recording of clinical symptoms and other physiological measurements such as ECGs, Blood Pressure and Body Temperature etc.
- The collection and recording of accurate data both manually and using electronic data capture systems
Main responsibilities:
We are looking for experienced Animal Technologists, with some familiarity with conducting experimental procedures in regulatory toxicology studies. You may already possess an IAT qualification and will understand the importance of, and be committed to, pursuing new knowledge and skills within your field.
You will need a good understanding of the legislation surrounding the use of animals in research and good verbal communication skills in order that you can share your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with other team members.
Sequani carries out a broad range of regulatory toxicology studies, including reproductive and juvenile. We ensure that our Animal Technologists are as versatile as they can be and our training programme is designed to support you as you work across a range of laboratory species and regulated procedures.
The role will require you to be flexible in working hours and will involve working on alternate weekends. We are looking for candidates who are genuinely committed to working with animals. The work can be physical and because of our flexible working we do seek people who can get into work with their own transport.
Skills and experience:
Essential:
- Possession of an existing Home Office personal licence or have held a personal licence within the past 5 years
- Experience of conducting regulated procedures
- A passion for working with animals with 3R’s initiative
- Work well as part of a team with good communication skills
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to follow detailed instructions with accuracy and attention to detail
- Must have own transport
