Job description
The Squire Law Library at the University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and customer-focused library colleague to the interesting role of Library Assistant (Metadata). This is an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated team and to play an important part in the operation of one of the largest libraries in the University and one of the leading academic law collections in the UK. The Squire underpins the teaching and research activities of Cambridge's Faculty of Law and aims to provide the highest standards of customer service.
You will be responsible for cataloguing and classifying the newly acquired print book material received by the Squire Law Library. The role also has some involvement with law-related ebook purchases. The post is vital to the efficient running of the Squire so that the large amount of book material that is collected 'in print' can be accessed by students and researchers when required. The post-holder also plays an important part in the general operation of the Squire including helping with enquiries and providing assistance to students and researchers as well as assisting with other routine library tasks.
Strong organisational ability, good communication and interpersonal skills, team-working, enthusiasm, flexibility and an eye for detail and accuracy are all important attributes for this role at the Squire Law Library.
This post is full-time - Monday to Friday with some Saturday morning work on a rota basis with other library colleagues for which time will be given off in lieu.
The Squire Law Library is one of the Humanities and Social Sciences libraries and is a part of the wider network that is known as Cambridge University Libraries (CUL). The post-holder can be assigned to any aspect of CUL's work.
