https://www.joh.cam.ac.uk/library-assistant-0St John’s College, one of the largest Colleges within the University of Cambridge, is seeking to appoint a Library Assistant into its busy Academic Library set within its beautiful and historic College grounds.

The Library Assistant will provide the backbone of the Library’s ‘front of house’ service and is integral to the Library's smooth and efficient running. It involves carrying out a variety of essential daily routine and non routine tasks including answering enquiries and issue desk invigilation, as well as maintain reader records and taking responsibility for the likes of shelving books, archives, manuscripts and other materials.

The successful candidate should be educated to at least A Level standard with some previous experience of Library or similar work. Accuracy, courtesy, speed and efficiency are also paramount in this role. The Library Assistant must be able to act on their own initiative, learn quickly, and work under pressure, taking responsibility for the work of the issue desk whilst carrying out duties with minimum supervision.
